Yeah I figured it was 3rd party, didn't know it was Mego though. I can see how it was a reuse of a Bat Cave , sans the giant penny. After looking through a few more catalogues I had noticed how much 3rd party stuff was slipped into the Joe page. I had the cheep-o Jeep in the sears book with the American Star marking on the hood. What I am interested in the that Cobra 3 pack on the same page as the "Batcave" in the Penny book. According to the listing one of the Cobras came with Bazooka's Bazooka, and another has Short Fuses' mortar. I would love to see how these were packaged. Were they just in the generic red bubble with the accessory thrown in?
Thank for posting though. Appreciate the info. I learn so much here. Quote:
That Command Center was not a GI Joe product. I had one and it was a neat set but, it was a generic brand made for use with any figures. It was loosely developed from Mego's Pocket Heros Batcave https://images.search.yahoo.com/imag...29&fr2=piv-web

Did you take a closer look at the rebel transport ship in the 1982 penny book? Your description really sounds a lot like it.

[QUOTE=Zer0G;4720256]I know this is probably not it, but man I remember going over to a friends house and they had this thing and it made noises and sounds and all sorts of fun stuff.
[QUOTE] DUDE, SWEET! That is a STARBIRD! I got one of those around '79 or '80. It was so cool. It had a lot of features. The switch on the bottom made it hum like it was hovering. When you tilted the front up the sounds got faster and higher in pitch like it was flying up. When you tilted it down they got slower and lower in pitch. There was a gray button behind the cockpit (you can see it in the pic) that made the lasers in the front light up and flash. The gray wing tips were fighters that detached. The gun on the back was on a ball the rotated all around. The cockpit was detachable and the large engine came out of the back and connected to the cockpit making a smaller ship. Then the the entire top and sides of the cockpit came off in one piece creating another slimmer ship. If there was room a joe could have sat in the cockpit so it was fairly large. The one in that pic is missing the decals. I cant remember what thy were, it's been a loooong time since I saw those. Thx for the memories man! |
