Immediately invalidated by the lack of The Real Ghostbusters.
I mean, really?

Cool read but filled with a buncha crap that nobody played with. I remember much of that stuff being on major clearance.
Top 5 should have went like this: 5. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 4. Masters Of The Universe 3. Transformers 2. G.I. Joe 1. Star Wars

Yeah, I don't see how Star Wars can't be number 1 on such a list. People can argue till they turn blue about whether Joes or Transformers are number 2 but no way SW isn't number 1.

What metrics are we using to determine what is "best"? Because by most measures the only superlative the original Star Wars line has is the size of the blind spot its nostalgia factor creates in people.

Yeah, as far as SW goes, I think it depends on what you're using to rank the lines. SW has going for it that it was the first well known 3 3/4" figure based on a wildly popular movie. But GI Joe had better articulation, better scuttling and detail, better accessories, more vehicles and their vehicles came with drivers. So I personally agree with Joe as #1, but I thinkniy would be interesting to know which line made more money in the 80's. That might go to SW.
I mainly stick to Joes as a kid, with SW coming in second. I had some representatives from a fee of the other toy lines, like MUSCLE, GoBots, MASK, TMNT, MOTU, TF, SheRa and even a Super Powers figure. But these were much much less in quantity compared to Joe. Cool article! Thanks for the link!

On top off all you mentioned, Joe and TMNT both lasted longer in the given incarnations.
Granted, modern Star Wars figures are staring down twenty years of constant presence on store shelves, the same can't be said about the original line. Jesus, twenty years.... Last edited by Konigstiger; 03-16-2014 at 05:13 PM.. |

True, one's ranking would be based on what metrics.
However, SW is what made the 80's Joe line possible.

Good god, even back then I was strictly a G.I. Joe fan.
From that entire list of 30 Action Figures besides G.I. Joe, the only other toys I own was #7 Voltron and Condor w/ Brad Turner from M.A.S.K.
