These guys made some buzz last year by announcing production of Kenner's abandoned "Alien" movie figures (in true retro style) and promptly announcing practically EVERY major geek brand in existence as on tap for figures!
These figures are designed much as how Kenner would have designed these licenses circa 1983, which includes 3.75 size, wacky proportions, low articulation and some questionable accuracy. But VERY cool for old school toy fans. Among the lines slated for release include: Alien (out now at most comic/specialty shops), Terminator (only part 1 is due, but they have the license for part 2), Predator, Universal Monsters, Modern Horror Icons, Back to the Future, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Snake Plisskin, Firefly, The Rocketeer, Nightmare Before Christmas, The Goonies, and...Pulp Fiction? Entertainment Earth has a whole slew of them up for preorder Retro Kenner-Style Action Figures - Action Figures, Toys, Bobble Heads, Collectibles at Entertainment Earth While TheFwoosh has exclusive images of the Predator (and its unmasked alternate) http://thefwoosh.com/2014/02/first-l...action-figures

I've heard of them, yes, but I only knew of the Alien figures. Didn't know they were doing all of these other ones. I initially was all over the idea for these. But I thought they were going to be like, $5 or $6 each. Not the $15 or whatever they're actually going for. Kinda puts a dampen on me wanting to get them. I mean, I understand that they really can't be that low for a lot of reasons, but realistically, they kind of only exist as novelties...
Though, to be honest, I'd get every single Back to the Future figure they'd make, along with probably a Xenomorph, A Predator, and maybe a Terminator Endoskeleton. Anyway, will these be available in retail, or only online?

I am happy for fans of these. But, to be honest they do nothing for me. IMO they should have been only made prior to 1987. I grew up in that time period and these figures do nothing for my nostalgia bug. Now if they were all being done Ultimate SE and SS style I'd be buying all of them, ALL of them.
But, I am very happy for those that want and love these. |

I have seen them reviewed and while they look all retro, they just don't move me enough to invest in them. I may pick up some of them but right now I need to see them first. I am glad they are being made though.

Bleh, these look terrible. Way worse than the Alien figures, which at least had the charm of being based on some cancelled toys. It's cool that a company is making 4 inch figures of such cool TV and film properties, but the "vintage" styling just seems like a cheap move to avoid paying for actors' likenesses.

I think these are pretty awesome. I preordered like 35 of them. The variety of movies and characters is just amazing. I guess they are disappointing as far as play value goes but they're retro style collectibles and I'm really digging it. I plan on keeping them unopened.

Considering 5 POA was industry standard for decades (well into the 2000s, in some cases), I find that statement amusing :p It was plenty for those of us who grew up on Kenner's hey day! :p
So, this getting bumped because I got The Rocketeer today. But I'm of mixed minds on this (aside from the style of the figure, retro figures are a love it/hate it thing to begin with): With most of the properties, they fall into two broad catagories- stuff that was around when this "vintage Star Wars" style was on the market (Terminator, Goonies, BttF), and the stuff that came SO far later, they come around on novelty (Firefly, Pulp Fiction). But with some of the licenses, they come from a distinct time period. During the late 80s/early 90s, Kenner shifted to a new format, the 4.5" stylized format represented by The Real Ghostbusters, Robocop, and The Dark Knight collection/Batman Returns. I think I would have been far more enamored with the figure if he looked like he might have come from MY period of toys (when the movie came out, btw). Predator is another one that I feel falls into that catagory. But yeah. He is what he is, and is the first (and only) normal action figure The Rocketeer has gotten. Certainly better than the Bend-Em I had when the movie came out.
