I don't think so at all- I think they actually end up hitting 2 targets with this line built the way it is- fans of the property, just regular folks without 'toy' issues that see something from a movie they like that looks like an old star wars figure (probably the only action figure most people remember)... and then the actual 'Toy collectors'... which will be more hit and miss between people that just enjoy toys and people that want 'modern' action figures. Over-all I think the line will fail terribly if they are pushed hard at places like toysrus and wal mart where their simple builds will be side-by-side with more 'modern' figures. But book stores, video stores, specialty stores like Hot Topic, Spencer's, etc... they might do some good business...

I get the Alien figures and think they're great. Ditto the Universal Monsters ones. The issue I have with them is that if there HAD been a BTTF line in 1985 - and especially if there'd been a Firefly line in 2002 - the figures wouldn't have looked like that. THAT'S where the concept breaks down, IMO.
The two big ones to me in that area, though, are Predator and Rocketeer. By the time those movies had been released, Kenner had shifted in aesthetics to a bulkier 4.5" figure line (see Real Ghostbusters, Robocop, Dark Knight Collection, etc), so if Kenner had made a Rocketeer figure in 1990, he SHOULD look like he should fit in with THOSE figure, not vintage STar Wars figures. That said, considering they are around $10, and a mass retail 5 POA figure from Hasbro or mattel is about $6 (unless at TRU, which has charged $10 at times)...I'm not sure they compare all that unfavorably.

"fans of the property, just regular folks without 'toy' issues that see something from a movie they like that looks like an old star wars figure (probably the only action figure most people remember)" isn't super likely to be IN a ToysRUs to being with, which was the point of these maybe doing better in specialty stores. I want these to succeed as much as the next guy (well... the next guy that doesn't think these suck...) but I don't see ToysRus as a great place for them.. it's cool to have them there, I just don't think it's where they will do the most business. just my observations from all the Modern Toy fans slamming these guys- just as likely to be wrong as right. |

Are they? Seems like an odd thing for Walmart to carry, probably a thing larger stores do. My local podunk barely carries action figures, much less any collectible line.

I agree that TRU isn't going to do gangbusters with them, but I view them no more out place than any of the high end stuff from NECA or the pop vinyl stuff. Either way, I don't think mass retail will be a major force here. I'm pretty sure most of ReAction's sales have been from the specialty venues anyway.

I wouldn't have expected it either. I've heard they are found sometimes in the toys and sometimes up with the trading cards and junk. One of the walmarts nearby sounds a lot like yours- toys haven't been refreshed since several Christmas' ago. Anytime they have cars/legos/action figures all in the same aisle it's bad news

I think with a bit of work, SOME of the heads might work. I bought 2 Plissken figs today, one to keep and one to mess with and I did some quick modding to his head. Works ok so far. I just have to find the right neck post for him.

Nice plissken^^^
Similarly, I bought a doc brown figure at TRU to customize onto a Joe body. I may have to get a snake plissken as well

Does TRU carry the pulp fiction figs?

On several occasions I have come across these and I always end up grabbing a set only to put them back on the pegs a few minutes later. I've seen Alien, Firefly, and Terminator figures at Barnes and Noble and TRU. That being said, I would buy the BTTF figures to go with my large Delorean time machine to have something to fit inside.
