Which reminds me, I am surprised that no company has made toys of the F-14, F-15, and F-16 in recent years that are "joe scale" and in the $30+ price range. Power Team Elite and True Heroes are proof that planes of that size can fit the bill.
Last I heard, PTE was rumored to be working on a JSF F-35. Right now it seems more likely that the J-10 will be released next. I don't mind it but considering that the Flanker was rare in the US last year, I have a feeling we'd have to import the J-10 if it is made for PTE. I dunno call me crazy. I think it's ugly as sin lol |

I hate to say this, but Hasbro will never make a f14 because it is a retired airplane. I mean retired from actual use. A new cartoon or movie will never ever use a f14 or f15 or f16. A director would use the most advanced and exotic plane on screen. Or something totally make believe like the Cobra dropship or that Joe vtol. It's not a hasbro's fault. Without a media tie-in, the f14 won't make it to plastic. Maybe if there's a Top Gun 2. Would Tom Crusie still fly the f14? Maybe if there's another Godzilla movie, Hasbro could sneak a f14 in there. Or Independene Day 2? F14 in there?

And to answer your question, if there IS a Top Gun 2 or Top Gun remake (PLEASE GOD NO.), it'll probably use the F/A-18... seeing as that's pretty much the Navy's only fighter. And as for another Godzilla (OH HELL NO.) or ID4, I see the probability of them pulling the Tomcat from retirement to combat a giant atomic energy-breathing lizard or aliens to be very low... considering there are effectively no Tomcats left in the US Inventory. They all got ground up to keep their parts from being stolen and sold to Iran.

It is what it is. What can we do. BUT it ain't so bad we have the original Skystriker which to me, is good enough, ESPECIALLY after I retool them LOL. |

The F-14, highly unlikely. But the Eagle and Falcon are still the go-to aircraft of the USAF and many of our allies; they may not be as visually impressive as the Raptor, but they are far from obsolete. And as mentioned elsewhere, the F-15 is a muscle car of a plane; it just looks awesome.

They all got ground up to keep their parts from being stolen and sold to Iran. The F-14D's however are VERY DIFFERENT under the hood. The entire avionics system in the F-14D is a computer controlled one unlike the earlier A and B versions. The only similarity in an F-14B and an F-14D is the general airframe and the NEWER GE-110 Engines, of which Iran does not have. The entire Iranian fleet is still using the original Pratt and Whitney Engines. The Navy actually changed the Pratt Whitney engines to the GE-110's because the GE-110 engines enable the F-14 to take off from a carrier WITHOUT having to use afterburners, which can be seen from as far a 10 miles away at night, thus further masking where the aircraft carrier is located. The GE-110 engines are also more powerful pushing the overall speed of the F-14 to Mach 2.35. The Iranian F-14's are all land based aircraft and don't use afterburners to take off. The Pratt and Whitney Engines aren't as powerful as the GE-110's BUT for the Iranians it serves it's purpose very well. F-14D's are still at Monmoth AFB out in the desert. They can still be pulled to active duty if need be. Would they? Almost certainly no. The chances of the F-14D's being brought back to active duty could only happen realistically if we went to war with Iran and took massive air casualties at the hands of the Iranian F-14 Fleet. Then and only then could I see bringing our F-14D's back into service, because to be honest, they're the only air superiority fighters that we have that could match the Iranian F-14A's in targeting, maneuverability, speed, long range overall distance in terms of flight, and seriously, what better way to kill the Tomcat then with a more advanced Tomcat? ( The F-15 is a bit faster maxing out at Mach 2.5 as opposed to the F-14 at Mach 2.35, BUT it is not as maneuverable in dog fighting, one big reason Grumman went with the variable sweep wing design over it's original F-15 fixed wing design. ) See picture attached to see the ORIGINAL F-15 Grumman Design!! No it was not named F-15 at the time, it's actually an F-14 with 2 different wing configurations, of which both designs were used as the F-14 and F-15's we know today I hate to admit this but I truly believe that if the Iranian F-14A's have experienced pilots flying them then our F-18's are in deep deep shit. The F-18 cannot do what the F-14 can do, it's not as fast or maneuverable, it doesn't have the targeting capability of the F-14, and a little known fact is that the Iranian F-14's have seen more action then our entire Air Force and Naval Fleet have seen over the past 25 years. YES people it's true, Iran used their F-14's to fight Saddam, shot down Iraqi Migs, and have seen PLENTY of action in the skies over the Middle East. Their pilots are all combat Vets in the dog fighting category, many of which supersede our current military pilots. The last pilots to see real dog fighting were in Vietnam. That's PRE F-14 days, the Tomcat came into Vietnam at the very very end of the war really only to give air support to the evacuation of Saigon. I too was amazed to find those facts out about the action the Iranian F-14's have seen. They are also currently fitted with the Long Range HAWK Missle, so their targeting capability is not one to be easily laughed at. The Iranians have devoted much time and money into keeping those birds flying, and dangerous!! Last edited by jpdraven; 03-25-2012 at 06:52 PM.. |
