I have noticed that my Tony Stark figures have a painted number on the left leg,and was curious to know why...I know he's technically a iron man figure, but he is made completely from ME joe parts....
at first I thought it was a painted on serial number or part number, especially after I had a few with the same number, recently I openened a pack, and the number on one is different? Wtf? I have several all with the same number, but one is different? also these are all from the same case, which confuses me even more. I hear a lot about "variants" does this qualify as one? If so what do I win for discovering it? and who wants to give me $1,000 for the odd ball? lol |

I don't really think the number is a variant any more than that engine number scribed into a block on a car.
That they come from the same case just means that different codes wound up in the same box. That's nothing special. That they're on there in the first place is annoying. For whatever reason all Marvel figures seem to have them showing up in bold, white paint. |

I have a dozen of the same figure from three different cases. All of them have the same number, but one.. That's what messes with me. If it was the figure's part number they should all be the same, right? If they're a serial number they should all be different just like an engine block. The 5 other figures in the set don't have any numbers on them at all that I have seen...only tony stark. What does the number mean then? why is it only on tony stark, and not on any of the other iron man figures? |

It possibly indicates a production run.

I originally bought one set for my son,and kept the Tony stark for his head. Then it came time to do stockings for the kids at a local childrens hospital that my wife&I donate to.as well as Our church for the children that wouldnt normally get a good christmas..We needed boys&girl nick nacks to stuff stockings with. since these 6 packs come with 3 red iron man,and 2 silver figures, and where relatively inexpensive, they make a perfect Christmas action figure IMO,besides what little boy doesn't like iron man?so, I bought 6 cases,as well as 6 cases of girlly figure sets. I didn't put any tony stark figures in the stockings, because I didn't want one kid to feel ripped off, since iron man is more cool,he doesn't match Christmas, and I kinda like him myself, lol. The good thing is there are less "long term" kids in the hospital, and less boys this year on the list at church,so I have two spare cases worth of figures I put them in my BST,and eBay...I'm actually running out, lol. Except for the tony stark figures. I have them on my dresser re-enacting a matrix scene. tony stark as agent smiths, and SS as neo..if you can picture that, lol. I opened more cases yesterday 24 have all the same number,1 is different. Last edited by BlazerZR5; 12-16-2013 at 05:06 PM.. |
