ok so i have been die'n to get a clones turbo tank, but who can afford to pay $200's for one of these? during the retail release i could not pull the trigger on $100's. then the retailer's drop the price to $50's and i still could not pull the trigger, for 2 reasons, hasbro just released the gi joe pit, and 2 i could not get past the fact that a SW's vehicle had wheels,at the time. so within the last two years i have been wanting one like real bad. mostly cuz i have every big vehicle that has been released sense 2008-09. so its like i have a whole in my collection and my education on SW has grown. ok so getting to the point. today i went to the thrift store and long behold there was a turbo tank sitting on the self. i went over to it to see the price on it. i could not believe my eye's. the price tag said 10 dollars! yes its missing all the missiles, the speeder bike and the middle top gun/radar looking thingy, but to the naked eye it is all there! so who's got a story like this????

I lucked out and found all three members of Team Bullet Train from Transformers RiD, in pristine complete condition, at a church rummage sale for $2 for the set.

When i started toy collecting in earnest back in the mid 90s, i made the circuit with my best friend each week of traveling to TRU closest to me and in that city, went to all walmarts, K-marts, the K*B Toys...
well at TRU i ran into a high school classmate/fellow marching band geek and learned that he had a closet full of G1 Transformers he was willing to part with to help pay for college. so... for about 2 months, on a weekly basis, i met him at his car in the TRU parking lot and bought his TF's. I got a complete Fortress Maximus for $150. Got Blitzwing, Octane, and several Autobot cars for about $15-$20 each. years later, when i first heard the term "plastic crack" i remember the parking lot, from the trunk toy buys from him and it made me laugh. i found out later that he had an ungodly Joe collection, too and i never got a shot at getting a shot at those from him on the cheap.

Scored the chrome Mustang fastback that was only available through the Hot Wheels Club back in the 60's for $1.00 at a flea market back in the early 80's. Nice shape, too.
Purchased a boxed vintage Kenner Imperial Shuttle at a toy show in the early 90's for $75.00. The box was in good condition and the Shuttle was in excellent condition with decals well-applied. Earlier this year, I won an ebay Auction for a beautiful/non-yellowed complete vintage Millennium Falcon. Around 50% of the decals were still on the original sticker sheet and a Kenner "We Really Do Care" customer service envelope with a bunch of extra parts (Landing gear, Jedi Training ball, Smuggling compartment cover, radar dish, etc.) were included. I paid $81.00 shipped for it.

When the Canadian retailer Zellers closed down last year I was able to get some great deals...eventually(they jacked up their prices so the initial 20% off wasn't much lower, but they quickly went up to 35%, 50% and so on) I was able to get the updated AT-AT for $25, 3 Crimson HISS for $6 each and the 30th Storm Shadow for $3. It was a good 2 weeks.

Well, thanks to a Japanese import site called Mandarake I was able to get most of my Super Sentai (that's Power Rangers to us non-Japanese) S.H. Figuarts figures for way dirt cheap over the last year.
The best deal was for a Japanese only parody show called Akibarangers S.H. Figuarts toy based on the show's mecha Itasha Robo. An actual in-scale with the Figuarts figures car that transformers into the robot mode that normally went for over $300-400 for around $100. That thing is HEAVY too. Lots of diecast. I couldn't believe it when the mailman gave it to me. |
