Call me crazy but I'm really starting to like these guys again. I had a few as a kid. Crystar, Ogeode, Moltar and the Crystal Dragon. Now that GI Joe is winding down again I might start looking to collect this line. It was the perfect blend of early 80's style. Sword and Sorcery, Marvel comic tie in with a few covers by Michael Golden, Conan the Barbarian/Krull story line type stuff... love it.
The Saga of Crystar - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Kinda sucks because it's hard to find now on the cheap.

I have always loved Crystar. I still have my figures from the 80's but they are discolored, so I bought a few off eBay for decent prices. I have Crystar, Warbow, Moltar and Ogeode in mint condition sans accessories (except Crystar has his helmet!)
ALSO, there is some kickstarter action figure customizer called "Backyard Legends" working on a MOTUC scale Crystar (called Crystal Prince for legal reasons) and Moltar, and he's almost done with production! https://www.google.com/search?newwin...2F%3B540%3B720 In fact, Crystar appeared (as a Marvel Zombie) on the cover of Marvel Zombies 4 #1 in recent years! https://www.google.com/search?q=crys...2F%3B499%3B768

I can remember being very sick (I think I had chicken pox or something). My Dad came home from work with Crystar, Magma Man and Zardeth. Needless to say, the line holds a special sentimental value to/for me.
If you do end up grabbing a few pieces, Xero, make sure to post up some pics please! |

Many fond memories of Crystar, both comic series and the toys (particularly the toys since they involve a vivid and fond "Toy moment" from my childhood).
I was into the comic series from the beginning, but it's a series that actually has gotten much better with age, IMO. The first issue is pretty bog-standard fantasy fare, but after that...it gets good. REALLY good. It's got just the right blend of humor (some of which is surprisingly adult-oriented), action, pathos, and just-plain craziness that it's a tremendously enjoyable read. I've been hoping in vain for years that Marvel would at least put out a TPB if nothing else, as my old copies are well...old. The toys? While it was never my favorite line, I still remember quite well the day that Mom and I went into Target (pretty sure it was a Target..might've been K-Mart, though) and apparently the Crystar stuff was all on MEGA clearance, because Mom bought me nearly the whole freaking collection in one go. The only things they didn't have were the Magma Catapult and Crystal Dragon, but everything else (including the Castle) I got in one go! I do remember being a little disappointed in how "cheap" the toyline was, and doubly-disappointed that several of the characters from the comic series weren't really represented in toy form, but it was still a Big Deal (tm) that it happened! |

I don't remember the toys. But the comic will live in infamy as the source for the Samhain/Danzig skull.

That was an early Michael Golden cover too.

You could string up the Crystal Dragon with fishing line, hook one end up and one end down and he'd slide through the house.

I never had the figures (I don't think they came out in the UK but I could be wrong) but that ad from the comic brought back a flood of memories.
