I've reached an odd point in my collecting where I no longer collect GI Joes, so I moved on to other toys, like Battle Beasts (which I am sure other 80s kids remember). But then I slowly lost interest in those. Then I dabbled in Trash Pack and the Lego minifig blind bags. Those were fun, but never a serious collection.
Then I moved on to Nintendo for that 80s and 90s nostalgia. This is where I am now. And I am loving it. I'm sure we all remember how awesome Super Mario Bros 3 is, and the various Mega Man games for NES? Also awesome! How about the Kirby's Adventure/Dreamland games for NES and Gameboy? Also awesome. There are also some more modern games (and by modern I mean 10 years ago) for the Gamecube called Pikmin, where you control an alien plant like army to do tasks for you. It's a great game. I've come a long way: in my 12 years of collecting I went from GI Joe, to GI Joe with a focus on Python Patrol and moc stuff, to Battle Beasts (completed that set), to other toys, like Dino Riders, Sky Commanders, to modern things like Trash Pack and Lego, now onto video games. So, what other toys do people collect? How about video games? ppforsale

I must be a sucker for punishment, as I also collect Hasbro's Marvel Universe line, a range treated with almost the same level of contempt by their manufacturer as GI Joe...
I also collected the SLUG Zombies, which were excellent but again, JAKKS Pacific didn't know how to deal with them, get them on shelves or publicize them. They've since been cancelled but I was fortunate enough to score all the figures from the five waves (plus a few un-released figures and even the collector cases...) Being unable to find half the stuff I wanted had me turning to another line for my toy kicks and I've found that Lego is my go-to brand now. Most stores carry the majority of what I want and for the stuff I can't find there's a Lego Shop about 30 minutes from my home, so I can always score a few goodies there. And unlike Joes or MU figures, it's not like there's a ''pressure'' to get everything that comes out. That's how I feel, anyway...

Generally just 1:18 scale these days. I've got a box full of Japanese stuff in the closet, and I have a few NECA figures up. I've got other collections, but 1:18 (that's a pretty fertile field) is pretty much all for toys.

1:18 scale
GI Joe -- I tend to favor more modern/near future designs and aesthetics as opposed to stuff that is straight homage to the 80's. Star Wars -- I limit myself to mostly Original Trilogy, but I make exceptions for some female characters, bounty hunters, jedi/sith, and expanded universe. I like the bigger, non-fighter vehicles like the Millennium Falcon and Slave I. Military -- I buy most of the nicer modern vehicles and I'll buy some figures to try out but am usually disappointed. Used to buy some WWII era figures, but not in recent years. 1:12 scale (6") MOTUC -- '82-'84 characters, plus some 200x and concept stuff. Castle Grayskull. TMNT Classics -- Bought everything so far. Thundercats -- Both classics and modern. Various scales Transformers -- Very picky. Only official product I even look at seriously is Masterpiece. Own MP Soundwave and an unofficial Omega Supreme. Looking for an MP-10 Optimus. Halo -- I've got old Joyride stuff, some McFarlane, Play Arts Kai, and a Jada Warthog. Mass Effect -- Play Arts Kai. All of them. Nickelodeon TMNT -- Just the four turtles. Maybe a Shredder if they do a better one. As for video games, I have an appreciation for the retro games of my childhood, but I've always been firmly planted in the contemporary. Currently, I'm into Splinter Cell Blacklist and Saints Row IV. |
