Im not impressed with Kre-O, the sets look great, but the figures kinda suck. The minimates have great articulation and, best of all, easy to swap parts. The minimate figures are very well articulated, even in the 2 inch scale. I think Hasbro going the route of brick sets is a pretty good idea. Im not thrilled with the figures but I do like the fact that there is a variety of characters. I see a lot of potential in Hasbro going this route because it shows that there is still interest in the GI JOE line as well as there being a potential for crossover to other lines as well as potential for classic and new sets/vehicles.
Most of the minimates I see come in two packs, one GI JOE and one COBRA, would be amazing to see them. The process of re-inventing GI JOE is an ardent task and no less deserving of tapping into yet another creative source. I think Hasbro is going the right route with bricks, easy to produce sets/vehicles and reuse of molds. The price point would definitely be more affordable and the small size should appeal to collectors as well as brick/Lego fans. If Hasbro can get close to the quality of Lego and at least be better than Mega Bloks, then I think Hasbro has a real shot of doing GI JOE a great service. |

Im sitting here looking at the large Lego space shuttle set #10231, I also have the incredible Millenium Falcon set that is just amazing. I cannot help but wonder what Hasbro could do with GI JOE in bricks. The Defiant/Crusader shuttle, the Terror Drome , hell even the Flagg would be cool as hell in Brick form. Granted it wouldn't have to be 7 feet long, but with the figures in 2 inch scale, it would be great to have more than two aircraft on the carrier. Hell, even the regular city choppers from the forest, rescue and police lines of Lego would fit in perfect.
And then there is the new potential out there...Brickshelf Gallery - db-25.jpg |

The Kre-O G.I.Joe stuff was not very good in my opinion. Stress marks everywhere, parts not wanting to connect very well. Just felt too knock-off like.
I wish G.I.Joe were in the Minimates line as I've collected Minimates for years now. Mostly Marvel, but also Star Trek, Street Fighter, HALO, and a few others. I've seen so many parts in the many figures put out that could easily be used to make certain Joe characters. I recall someone even made some really cool custom ones a while back even. And with Minimates they also do vehicles. They're kind of super deformed like but still cool. They've done HALO Warthogs, Back to Future's DeLorean car, Knight Rider's KITT, and even recently the original U.S.S. Enterprise from Star Trek. So HISS tanks, the VAMP jeep, and others would have been cool to see too. Obviously though, Hasbro is not going to have another company making toys of their properties. Sideshow being the exception or places only doing statues. |
