There is no way HASBRO is making a brand new USS FLAGG. It just isnt going to happen....but, and there is always a but....
..What if Hasbro made just the SUPERSTRUCTURE as a playset that you could basically make the flight deck as big or as small as you want. What if they made it so that you could change its look by being able to add/subtract pieces For the naysayers, give it a thought. With the portable playset, you dont have the issue of space to display or store it, its up to YOU how you big you want that flight deck to be, whether you put the playset on a picnic table with some dark grey rubber mats or put it on a wide (13"width) shelf that could be 4 feet or 6 feet long. Even if you use a 4'x8' piece of plywood you could control the size of the carrier. The carrier playset could include accessory sticker sheets and 3 rubber mats that could be set down on the kitchen table or coffee table, picnic table or shelf. After all it was originally called the COFFEE TABLE. Even taking some of those stackable rubbermaid shelves so that you can line them up and have an interior would totally make this work. I have brought this up as an affordable way Hasbro can make the USS FLAGG. Face it, its a tough economy and JOE isnt as popular but this GI JOE and Hasbro hasnt given up on him. Niether are we. I would rather see this than that abomination called THE PIT, that was a waste of plastic, time and effort. This playset could also be designed to be customizable, You could make a frieghter, destroyer, granted you would have to have some pieces that clip on and off but it could be done. There could also be some clip on ANTI AIRCRAFT GUNS as well as missile launchers This vice clips could also serve a double function as to clamp down or anchor the thin but sturdy rubber mat. Munitions trailer and tractor , fuel truck, blast shield that flips up. Granted Im sure we coiuld add other things, but I think Hasbro could really pull this off. Its not the vintage one, but it does offer us a chance to have a FLAGG or ship of our own. For those of you that want to pay for a re-issued FLAGG, just buy a vintage one and enjoy. For those that complain its too big, where would I put it, here is a valid option. GI JOE was about the regular Joe that was on the frontline, not just fighting COBRA. Today's military are our heroes and they are characters unto themselves. We want something realistic but also with a touch of future. I get that. Having a playset for JOES would mean it would need a crew, it would mean having other vehicles support it---HOVERCRAFT-KILLER WHALES, LCACS, SPEC OPS, CARGO CHOPPERS-multi roles, F-35s or Harriers or OSPREYs. If they re-issue the SKY STRIKER with foldable wings, two seater and better missiles, there is something that could be done for later on. Hasbro, if you are watching, I think its a potential idea. You have done great bringing back some classic vehicles, why not a classic playset. The projected cost would be $100 to $120, adding on some FLIGHT DECK CREW 5 packs w/air boss or shooter, Hasbro could really do well. The flight ops and main bridge could have lights/sounds, Radar/comm stations, sickbay, crew quarters, Looking at the large scale playsets that are out, expecially of the FISHER PRICE IMAGINEXT, I dont see it being any bigger than that, in fact, I see it as a three story, fold out. Just as the FLAGG was open on the Starboard side, make it the same here, time to go, fold it and pick it up by the handle and go home. What accesorries would you want to see? What functions if any would you want to see? Modular? (possibly to add on in the lower decks or have inner hangar deck crews with forklifts, pallets, engines? |

They just retooled the Tomahawk and Sky Striker, I am pretty sure they will try to cater to the "older generation" when and if making there next playset.
I own the PIT and that sucked soo hard. It would be a real hard sell considering Hasbros best vehicles are TOTALLY behind them soooo.... Also room! GI JOE has already wasted too much space on my shelves. It would have to be something pretty damn awesome to be able to keep in the collection.

If it is GI Joe and scaled close to 1:18, there is a very good chance I will buy it. So the answer is yes.

Good idea. But it's not for me. Even if the aircraft superstructure playset is modular, the degree needed to have it of use, for example park a couple of sky strikers, requires to much horizontal real estate.

I said no- mainly because I have a Flagg now and don't do anything with it because it's too large. That said I'd love to see it released for those who do want one.

I know, but considering the comments mentioned on the FLIGHT DECK CREW PACK, I thought it would be interesting to re-visit and also see if anything new pops up in conversation. The SUBMARINE CARRIER is pretty damn interesting.

Alot of kids have playsets with handles and ready to go. I like the fact that you could easily take this superstructure and set it down on some rubber mats on a picnic table and enjoy the it outside with other Joe fans or just yourself. Considering the fact that it being outside and kids get to play together, anybody with a plane or if someone brings more than one aircraft, they can have dogfights and touch n goes and lunch.
Again, I know the issue to alot of you is space, thats why its just the superstructure, at best its 2 ft by 2ft by 6-8 inches, I dont think that is too much real estate to take up. Besides, even if you put it on a shelf, depending on the width of the shelf gives you some space still to play with. Making Joe fun again and playing outside, with friends and using your imagination, rather than sitting and playing video games is what we are after, not to mention the adult fans who have space issues or want a different kind of carrier. By the by, I like that Submarine carrier idea, you could use the rubbermaid cereal box dispensers --paint them matte black and flip upside down and you have a tower. add some fins with a hot glue gun and you are good to go. Hmmmm....something for tomorrow maybe......muhahahaha....seriously tho, I do like the idea. |
