There was a lot of dumb in Alien Resurrection. I don't know how every single movie in the Alien (and by extension, Predator) franchises have gotten continually worse.

The focus has shifted from 'Let's make a great movie,' to 'Let's milk the franchise for every dime.'

saying something is Canonical (like they did for A:CM- which I enjoyed- not great) is different then it BEING canonical. If you dump Resurrection then going into a potential 5 you're lost as to how Ripley is back among the living after 3 or why she is now a weird alien monster person. If you NEVER even know about A:CM you will have missed nothing. So while I accept A:CM as part of the world- like Blade Runner and Prometheus- it doesn't play an active role in the storyline while Resurrection is (at this time) the final piece of the story and even more- an essential part of the story to understand a 5th movie

Studios will make them as long as people will pay to see them. But at what point WAS it about 'let's make a great movie'? Alien. Everything after that can be considered nothing more than a money grab- some just better than others. But THAT is Hollywood's business- so more power to 'em. Make 'em- I'll watch 'em

It actually seemed like some kind of Frankenstein-esque result of piecing together the defunct early scripts of Alien 3 (man were THOSE weird....) At least they still seemed Alien-like in Resurrection. Can't say the same for the AVP movies, where they and the Predators have basically just been reduced to dumb teen slasher villains basically. By the way, where have you been hearing this stuff about Alien 5? This is like one of those movies I hear thrown out there a lot with some others, but didn't know they were even actually working on.

I thought both movies felt like they had their own voice, and tried to be their own thing. Obviously yes, they were connected in name and lore and such, but it isn't like Aliens just tried to remake Alien for a quick cash-in.

Well, I wasn't really throwing out Resurrection's continuity....just saying it was a really weird movie, with some odd concepts.

AvP... wow. some good bits I guess.... maybe.... I haven't heard much about A5 but it sure would be nice to get something as well done and appreciated as Alien or Aliens (I really like Alien3 but understand why it's not ranked up with 1 and 2) |

yay! cookies!
Resurrection=weird yeah... I'll buy that. At least in the 'novelization' they gave credit to Morse (the survivor) and it was his writings that created (or at least taught) the movement that Call was a part of... I don't remember if they ever mentioned that in the movie... But it tied 4 to 3 at least AvP... wow. some good bits I guess.... maybe.... I haven't heard much about A5 but it sure would be nice to get something as well done and appreciated as Alien or Aliens (I really like Alien3 but understand why it's not ranked up with 1 and 2) As for Alien 3...I never really got the hate it received. I thought Alien 3 was actually pretty decent. Maybe not as good Alien or Aliens, but I always thought it had the same kind of feel and setting and stuff for the lore and the universe. I think the only thing I really had an issue with was that it felt like it was trying too hard to be like both Alien and Aliens, and couldn't decide on one or the other. Plus, after a whole group of marines armed to the teeth with all kinds of cool weapons, fighting waves and waves of Xenos in Aliens, it was kind of hard to accept going to back to a big group of dudes against one alien in the third movie. Truth be told, I haven't watched Alien 3 or Alien Resurrection in years....kind of makes me want to go back and watch them again. Maybe my mind will change about Resurrection if I see it again in a new light, or something.
