Hey everyone,
Another of my insane requests that no one will probably be able to help me with! Anyway, have you ever seen/owned/heard of a 1:18 Scale sized Oil Tanker or Cargo Vessel? I'm talking: I want something that will make the Flagg look like a peanut. I've scoured the net and really havnt found much, I was hoping you guys would have a lead! Mainly want to buy (or most likely end up making) one for a PMSC vs Somali or Nigerian Pirates Scenario. Thanks again people! |

I don't think you're gonna find anything production-wise. That would be a custom job all the way. Man, even Joescale this thing would be massive.
Seen pics of a 1:20 Graf Spee that would make the Flagg look like a tub toy, but nothing like this. |

I dont think its going to be possible...
my suggestion is to commission someone to make a 1:18 deck and different interior rooms. and you can use a really smaller one for the bigger pictures. I saw one of these in a 1:72 scale I think in a museum... and it had almost the same size with the flagg. To be honest, when I saw it I liked it sooo much, but it couldnt work with joes... |

This site has model boat plans that you may be able to re-scale to get something you might like.

making a boat that big is cool. unless you have alot of figs and accessories, it will look empty.

This might not be as hard to pull off as you might think. You can get a bow and stern hull pieces of the Flagg for a decent price on e-bay. That will give you a base line of width of the boat. You can either get the side strip for the Flagg or make one the length you think you need. I am sure we can help you out with measurements. You will have to trim some of the bow piece to get the desired shape based on the picture you posted. If you do not need the hull area exposed for diorama, you can duplicate the hull side piece for the other side and close it off. You will need support structures spaced out the length of the boat, about 10 inches apart should do. If you got the support structures that go with the bow and stern with your purchase of the bow and stern, you cans use them as templates to make your support structures. Once you have the hull built, you can then lay out your deck, Like with Shawn's Flagg pictured, Foam Board will work fine. All is left to do is build the bridge structure and you are done. At this point it's all about detailing the ship. If you have access to a full Flagg, you can make press molds of the superstructure and cast out detail parts. Also reproduction Flagg parts like the Y-pins make for good detail accents for your ship.
Like everyone else has posted so far, finding a close to scale production model of this ship will be next to impossible as those types of models are custom built for museums and corporate showcases. Building your own ship will be a fun project if you take the time to plan it all out.
