How many of you guys remember this little gadget, Fisher-Price Ends View-Master of Sites - WalletPop
considering our demographic here.....I'd say most, if not all of us. Sometimes old sayings like "Keep it Simple" ring so true. I have so many fond memories about that View-Master and was always ecstatic when loading a new disc for the first time. It's funny how technology isn't always what it's cracked up to be as my life minus a DvD player at the age of 5 didn't leave me any less deprived then having my View-Master in the back seat of my dad's car. She'll be missed =( Last edited by Sysiss; 03-05-2009 at 02:31 AM.. |

Yeah I loved mine as a kid, I wish I still had some of those!
That was as close to watching a movie in the car you could get back then. Le sigh.

From the article:
"But Clinton Brown of Columbus, who will turn 4 on Sunday, gave the View-Master that his mother, Karina, bought him a clear thumbs down. 'It's boring,' he said, his mother's fond childhood memories notwithstanding." This kid sounds like he is going to grow up to be an ungrateful @sshole. Meanwhile, there are thousands of children in North Korea who don't even know what a toy looks like. Spoiled rotten American brats. Last edited by Bravestarr; 03-05-2009 at 02:55 AM.. |

That little douche will be ungrateful. Go watch your dvd you little snot. Sucks that the viewfinder is done but there is technology out there to not let the kids put any effort into viewing things now.

A silent moment for the view master as I remember the hours spent with eyes affixed to the brightly colored pictures spinning round and round. To times down the toy isle attempting to get mom and dad to get that new pack of images. To the view master, you will be missed little red buddy.

I had a couple when I was a kid, I never thought it was boring and simple things like kaleidoscopes kept me busy just as much as my action figures did.
Yeah, I agree with the rest of you..that kid sounds like a little bastard. |

I found a Trakker tonight at Target and some kid was looking at it. He thought the backpack actually worked and thought it was electronic.
I told him, "Its powered by your imagination". He didn't quite understand that the toy wasn't automated. But kids today are so used to video games, talking pixar animal films, and whatever. We had mask, star wars, and cowboys, gi joe. They have Shrek, Japanese marketing scheme of the month, and Ben 10. My oh my how times have changed! |

Is the View-Master going or just the non cartoon slides?
edit - The View-Master itself is still around, it's just the "scenic slides" that are being discontinued. "Scenic discs are no longer a good fit for the Fisher-Price division of toy maker Mattel Inc., a spokeswoman said, and the company stopped making them in December. Fisher-Price, based in East Aurora, N.Y., will keep making better-selling reels of Shrek, Dora the Explorer and other animated characters, spokeswoman Juliette Reashor said in an e-mail to The Associated Press."
