Come on, it's gotten so messy with all of the retcons, and the dieing and being reborn, and some of the stupid changes to characters (like Tiger Shark imo), etc. It just needs cleaned up.

Take a look at DC right now, Its a bigger mess than before Crisis on Infinite Earths or Zero Hour. Reboots are not always the answer

I don't know why marvel is so afraid of a Re-boot. I love the characters and the history- but at some point even they need to realize it's just too big. I read the FF issue that came with the Doom/Spidey pack- Sue was using her powers to make sandwiches... to make freakin sandwiches... that is too powerful that she can manipulate her force field like that- Essential sue is a telekinetic on par with Jean grey using her forcefields. this is what leads to the bigger and bigger and bigger stories (and more ridiculous and ridiculous and ridiculous) Reboot it and put everyone at a 'day one' sort of power and don't let some dumbass writer 'take things up a notch' and make these characters too powerful for their own stories. Everyone is always trying to out-do what came before and it makes everyone too amped up or just too vague as far as what they can/can't do... (i.e. Magneto CAN NOT pull a Satellite out of orbit or manipulate people based off the iron content of their blood- though the X2 use of this ability with the guard that had iron 'injected' into him was perfectly valid....)

EXACTLY! Everything, exactly. Perfectly put Lo. Marvel is starting to fumble and topple over itself with the weight of these "huge" stories. They aren't even good. Avengers Under Siege wasn't a huge, multi-comic spanning event, and it was darned good. Marvel really needs to reassess how they are handling things and look at the movies for inspiration. (As in not going beyond what needs to be done to link movies and tell character stories).

that is a worst case scenario and just as likely to happen now... wait... it IS happening now. AvX is the modern Dark Phoenix story. A re-boot doesn't mean re-doing everything that came before with a modern setting- they learned that lesson when they crashed the Ultimate universe.
