New toyline by Mecha Workshop, designs by DON Figueroa. Same guy that drew Transformers War Within volume 1 and did the designs. Note that his WWI Prime design later influenced the WFC Optimus design. He also did some concept art for the 1st MP Optimus figure. While working with Hasbro his visions were not fully realized but with Mecha Workshop he has much more control and creative freedom.
Mecha Workshop has teamed with Action Toys and T-REX(known for their work on Yamato's Votoms and Macross Valkyries in recent years) to make Armarauders. Mecha Workshop Armarauders - New Company, Toys, Comics! Armarauders Major Update |

Looks robocop-ish. It doesn't really work for me. Not seeing the love. The big mech has odd hoof feet. I like the mech suits from Ironman.

I've never been a big "robot" or "mech " guy in the past. I've always appreciated the designs of the mechs i've seen in anime but it didnt translate into my purchasing a mech or robot related product. As a GI Joe fan growing up there wasnt enough emphasis placed on the human being i suppose and as i got older the few mechs that i did see with human mech pilot figures included were ultimately too large and too expensive for a 1 off casual purchase item that i didnt really have a lot of interest in beyond the design itself. That or the pilot figure was a static model.
Armarauders may have changed all of that. The 2'' mech pilot action figure has enough articulation to stand on it's own as a cool action figure at it's scale and the fact that it can be placed inside of the mech has sealed the deal. Dare i say it...i'm actually looking forward to these. An Armarauder will be my first official mech purchase (technically i bought a Marvel Universe Sentinel for this purpose but that will be a custom built manned mech). |
