Yeah, I am tempted by the MOTUC often....I literally hate seeing updates that are so awesome and know i can't partake of the fun of adding them to my collection. The figures in MOTUC are really well done and just really imaginative....but if i get started....
The free shipping on figures from Amazon was what sealed the deal. If i had to order without that, i probably would have passed. I just started collecting MU this summer, and have had awesome luck with finding figures on the forums for mostly under 5 bucks. Not a completist by any means, but there are some really cool figures coming out in the near future. I wonder how scarce they are going to be. Like you said, they are hitting quick here... I love collecting, but I hate not being able to find what i want in stores...and having to pay upward of 10 bucks for a 3.75 figure. Prices can really hurt the fun of collecting. It is like a meal at a restaurant. If I pay5 bucks for a meal at McDonalds I am alot more forgiving. If i go to a nice restaurant and eat a meal, even if it is really good, i find myself thinking of the price, and it kinda makes it less enjoyable. I don't mean to complain about prices, because obviously i have a choice to buy....just whistful for the days when figures were plentiful and i could find anything i wanted for 5-6 bucks...or even cheaper on ebay. It bugs me not being able to find stuff in stores since the thrill of the hunt has always been fun. Well, the thrill is basically gone and we're relegated to ordering most of our stuff online or having to miss it completely. and I miss those days of less expensive figures as well. as far as how scarce the new MU will be..... It's popping up in Texas and a few other places (wave 18 that is) so I have hope that we will see it soon since I can't afford to order figures by the case. Especially when I only want a couple from that wave (Kraven, BRB). I also expect to start seeing more of them starting next month, when the holiday push really starts. So I'm holding out hope for that.

Bub I totally agree with you. It seems that these days the most desired figures are either exclusives, part of a lost/last wave, or one per case, and damn expensive. If you don't happen to find the item yourself, or have someone help you get it. Then you should prepare to pay up. This is what our hobby has turned into.

Plus you could inspect the paint job on it yourself instead of HOPING that the one you get sent in the mail isn't screwed up.

I'll have to agree. That is the worst part about ordering online.

I used to LOVE the hunt. I had a wal-mart on my way to work, and I would leave 10 minutes early every morning to pop in to see what they had. The greeters knew me by name. Now i never bother, because I know there will never be any new Joes or Star Wars Vintage....now my hunt is on through the forums and hope i can find something at a decent price with shipping...or hope for a trade....*sigh*
Gyrapados-YEah, i am glad I realized that MOTUC was a dead-end full of tears. I can't even dip my foot in that pool. Just like I won't dip my foot in modern Transformers...still, i kinda think it is great i don't have an unlimited budget. It makes me enjoy the figures i do get a little more. |

I've been extremely fortunate with paint apps when I order figures online. I think that's in large part due to BBTS knowing what collectors expect. To the best of my recollection, I don't think I've ever gotten a bad paint app from them.
This year has been a huge anomaly in regards to collecting. We haven't gotten the successful haul stories nearly as much this year, as opposed to years past. At least not from retail. It's pretty much to the point now, where we either have to change the way we collect, or just concede defeat and get out of the hobby altogether. |

I'm looking forward to the time when we can download action figure specs and print them to 3D printer

With the lone exception of the Retaliation wave 2 3-pack FF, the only thing I purchase is Star Wars. It kinda sucks that the final vintage wave is strictly online, but then again things are very difficult to come by at retail as is.
The crimson guardsmen is really the only one I'm truly interested in and if I want one, I'll find a way to get one. If not, live goes one. My collecting days are coming to an end I feel and I'm fine with that. I'm grateful for the fun I've had these past 2 and 1/2 years collecting. I've got my list of what I want and haven't been able to obtain ready for C6 to wrap it up. If Hasbro does a Dagobah Luke, Hammerhead or super articulated Fett next year they'll be definite buys. But beyond that, I'm satisfied with what I have.
