Just saw on cool toy review that the SDCC version of the helicarrier is a foot longer then the retail release and going for 125 bucks, what do you think? I'm seeing a cobra flying fortress in my future.

This thing is NOT impressive. It's actually kind of lame. It makes a good flying deck but that is it.
The picture is of the retail version, but a foot longer isn't going to make a big difference.

Yeah, it WOULD be a kick@ss Helicarrier if you played Heroclix or Warhammer or something. Then it may be in scale, at least more than it is for a 3.75 Joe figure!

I've seen pictures of the helicarrier with the extra foot of length and it really does make the whole thing look better.
The extra foot is between the rotors so that the rotors are farther apart which just looks better. It also adds two side guns to each side which makes the helicarrier even better armed. The color is also much better. Sadly it still just doesn't work in the scale for 3 3/4" inch action figures. Perhaps with some small scale jets it would look nice, but that's a huge chunk of change for something that will be out scale with everything except something like the Matchbox jets and helicopters. |

All good points, but cobra just doesn't have a playset that really works for the ME so we have no choice but to mod what we can to get what we need. I think buying a SDCC version AND a retail version to kit bash a ultimate cobra fortress is a really good idea. For the same money a guy would spend on a complete terrrordrome that has serious fragility issues, you could work out something that's one of a kind and very close to scale.

Not even close to scale.
Take a look at the size of a 3.75" figure on the deck of the retail and then add a foot. You'd have to heavily mod it to make it even 1/2 way workable. It's only got limited figure space, the two darker hatches lift up and can place a figure in them, standing, and they stick 1/2 way out. It's not worth the price. You'd do better to make something out of plywood, cardboard, foamboard or something else.

They'd have to retool a Flagg mold to make it impressive imo and we all know that isn't going to happen.

Hell of an exclusive. I bet it's a really small production run. And I bet a bunch of people bitch about Maria Hill not being available anywhere else....
However...looking at the SDCC design, Hasbro missed a big opportunity. It looks like they -could- have made it so that you could buy multiple Helicarriers to increase the length by adding more of those "middle" pieces....if they'd been creative about it. Alas, it does no appear to be the case. |

i still plan on getting at least the retail carrier and putting asps/ whirl winds on it and call it a mobile weapons platform, or even trouble bubbles, fangs, and claws with some of the cobra jump troopers. over all i am pretty stoked for this one!
