All boxes from Joe or other toys got turned into bases.
I had a tent in my room that made a great underground mountain base. Mixed in a lot of Star Wars stuff, including hand me downs like the 12" Joe base & disney weeble castle. :^) |

My parents had a pretty large in-ground goldfish pond that hadn't been used for a long time, and had become completely overgrown with moss and small plants. That was perfect as a Volcano entrance, or an ancient Cobra Temple.

My mom had a fairly large desert scene garden in the backyard with little cactus and different type and size rocks that she got when we went to Arizona. Dusty fought many battles in that garden. LOL.
Also, we had one of those old refridgerators that had the small freezer at top and it always had all that ice build up in it that looked liked shaved ice. That's where my arctic battles took place. |

The molded blanket terrain was indeed a classic.
Another favorite of mine was the molded styrofoam from boxed electronics. They made really cool arctic bases and you could punch holes in them or break off pieces for battle damage.

I still do that to this day. I bought a new Grill a few weeks ago, and used the strofoam for an arctic outpost!
