I bought a few for animation purposes... Ya i know they suck for animation. But it was the only way to get certain charactors.
I can still go to flea markets & find these things for $15 each because some guy bought them when they were new & thought he'd make tons of money on them. |

I remember when POTF2 first came out back in 1995. They just flew off of store shelves and were impossible to find. I must have blown through hundreds of dollars when that line was available.
I remember the craze for the .00 figures back when Ebay was still in its infancy, notably the Obi-Wan Kenobi figure with the grammatical/mis-spellings in its bio. Then there was a .00 TIE pilot with some sort of error that got fixed on the .02 release of that figure. Then there was the desirability to find the long sabers as opposed to the shortened sabers/long trays in the blister packs. The vehicles weren't bad. They were mostly re-issues of the vehicle molds from the late 70's/early 80's, notably the landspeeder, X-wing, Slave I and TIE fighters. Some had good updates like the Vader TIE (much more movie accurate than its predecessor) and the speeder bike that had a scout that looked much better than its '80's counterpart. I had a ton of these, but then episode 1came out and it ruined my love of star wars. I sold them to a friend for $1.00 a piece.

This is one area that makes buying SW collections tough. If I had a nickle for every time someone told me they'd like to get what they paid for them. I usually reply with "then you'll need to sell them individually yourself".

This line is what made me an action figure collector.
He-Man Luke is about the only one I can't currently use on my shelves. I don't mind mixing modern lines. I've been working on my Star Wars room for the last two weekends so I've been exposed to a lot of these recently, getting stuff out of storage and setting up, etc. I am glad I never collected them for secondary market value or as investments. I have a friend who had about three complete sets of the old red/green cards who, the last time we discussed them, was thinking of seeing if he could donate them to Goodwill for a tax writeoff. I can remember when the blue Collection 3 freeze-frame action figures were released and many of them were uber-rare, like the Weequay, Sandtrooper (just re-issues) and newer ones like the Death Star Trooper and Ree-Yees (who has never been re-issued/resculpted, though it's fair to say Ree-Yees is one of the better POTF2 action figures and holds up well even today). Weequay on a freeze-frame card used to fetch about $300, and the Sandtrooper used to go for about $100. CRAZY. It pleases me perversely that many people who collected this line to make money and NOT because they were Star Wars fans now are stuck with it. I was a fan, less so now than back then, to be sure, but I don't mind them. I actually am going to BUY one I want for one of my scenes: Ishi Tib. I prophesy one day they will have some sort of kitschy cult following.

the major difference for me between the 90s figures and the current lines is that, (oddly enough) they went all GI Joe on the figures. more articulation, detail and better quality.
the 90s figures can't compete with that. i had to buy a OTC figure or two and when i saw the amount of articulation/detail, i was kinda sad that i couldn't afford to go all out for the new star wars lines. (I don't have the room either.) i think the line would have done better, lingered a bit longer had they (again, oddly) they had done what GI Joe had done with figures 10+ years before. articulation and better detail. Still, there are a few things in PotF that still have some value or collectability. but not enough to make it a vintage collectible like other older toys. Fudge!!!! i jusr checked the vehicle lists over at Rebelscum.com. the only vehicle from PotF2 i don't have is the T-16. and the i am just missing the OutRider and a Swoop bike from Shadows of the Empire. i could complete those sets in no time...tempting. lol.
