I was at a Target store today in Long Island, NY when I came across a sign in the toy section with the following text...
COLLECTIBLE ITEMS Ton ensure that all guests have an equal chance to purchase the populat high-demand toys that we carry, we have the following policy: Team members cannot search the stockroom for items in response to guest requests for unique styles. Items cannot be held for individual guests. Has anyone come across this sign before? I know many people have been asking Target employees to check the stockroom for Sky Strikers. I know that it's always been hit or miss, depending on the store you go to, in order to get employees to check the stockroom for items. Now it looks as if some stores are trying to enforce this policy. Lucky for me this store had one remaining Sky Striker on the shelf. I know some of you have been lucky enough to have an employee bring a Sky Striker out from the stockroom for you, but for some of you this hasn't been the case. I'm wondering if this is an actual policy of theirs, or if certain store managers just made it up because they don't want their employees to be doing this everytime someone asks for something?

When I worked at Kmart we had a similar policy, but I couldn't tell you if it was just that store or all of them.
The policy went like this, "if someone ever asks you to look in the back for hot wheels, you tell him everything is on the shelf."

I used to see this sign in targets but haven't in a while. I was lucky recently when I asked an employee at customer service about the skystrikers. She had another worker get one for me.

I've seen it at many different Target stores many times, dating all the way back to the early 90's.
It usually happens when a particular store gets so inundated with people dredging up DCPI numbers and hounding employees to go looking for little plastic men that the store manager decides his employees have better/more important things to do. It's usually not a permanent fixture, but I'm pretty sure it's accepted policy as far as the Target corporation is concerned, given that I've seen it at various times from one end of the country to the other. HOWEVER the loophole in the policy is "unique styles." You can't really ask them if they have "Insert X figure or vehicle name here" but if there's room on the pegs/shelf you can ask them to bring out a new case of the same product if they have one in the back. Though sometimes they won't even do that, and there's no guarantee it won't be a revision case as opposed to a case of the "new" stuff. So if you're looking to get someone to pull a box of Skystrikers for you...make sure there's a spot for them on the shelves. Last edited by Jmacq1; 07-29-2011 at 01:45 PM.. |

i've seen it at the hotwheels section at a few stores, everyone always trying to get the damn treasure hunts, not at the action figures area though. makes sense, i'm sure the scalpers complain when another scalper keeps beating them to all the good stuff

I've posted a pic of that sign a few times in various threads. The Target that originally had that sign during ROC (go figure) eventually pulled it down later. Most likely during a reset. That same store about a week ago pulled a Skystriker from the back for me. However, the guy that did it seemed kind of new and clueless.
I think when too many people bug them about stuff and/or others complain when they got beat to the punch they probably put those signs up to stop the harassment. |

The point is don't go asking them to look in the back for a Steel Brigade figure, but if the pegs are empty you can ask if an Joes are in the back. I don't think the Skystriker falls under unique. I believe they are shipped as solid cases, not assortments.
