Great topic, Flash!
Well, many have heard the story before, but here goes: My uncle worked for, and retired from Hasbro. He sent me everything and anything that he could buy while he lived in R.I. I also have divorced parents, so that meant EXTRA HUGE HAULS on Christmas (heck, buy my love, it works for me! ![]() I've collected damn near everything...but stuck with G.I.Joe & Transformers for the most part. Unfortunately, I've sold, re-collected and sold my collection going on 4 times now...lol. I have toy A.D.D. I love it, then I get tired of it...sell it, miss it, and buy it again! ![]() I still collect primarily Joes & TF's. My prized piece would be my Iron Grenadier collection. They've always been my favorite subgroup...and I have a nasty Destro Fetish (not Destro our fearless leader..that would be plain wrong! LOL) I do plan to continue collecting, but I really can't say for how much longer. Although the 25th line is a must...I'm not sure what, if anything, I'll pick up after that. I hail from New York City, but currently call Michigan my home. |

I grew up on Joes...then kind of grew out of it for a while...a long while. Then 2 years ago...I had to have knee surgery. And during my time home....cabin fever and boredom set in. My son and I found some boxes in the attic...and lo and behold they were my childhood joes. When I looked at my son (age 4 at the time)...I seen the same look in his eyes that I had when I first seen joes. With that...I was back. Since them my son and I have been collecting like mad. LOL
I haven't had time for any other lines...but I do have my He-man figures from my childhood yet. Like CIAD...I too, was nice to my toys. When my son got me back into collecting...I started to hit the boards and met some great people online. CIAD is one of my best friends that I have never met in person. He was nice enough to let me take a lot of his collection off his hands. As for most prized collection item...I'd have to say my Rattler. It was the first large joe item I got as a child...and it is very dear to me, when I hold it I can close my eyes and picture childhood friends and backyard joe/cobra battles. I most certainly will continue collecting. However my focus is on 3.75 scale. Nothing against S6...I do purchase some of them, but I rather the joe scale I grew up on, and so does my son. With limited product in my area...I got into customizing. Heck...if Hasbro won't make what I want...nobody but me is gonna take a crack at it. I find customizing to be very fun and a great stress reliever. I am from Pottsville, PA...home of America's Oldest Brewery. LOL

What got you into collecting?
I split my collecting in to two eras, Childhood/Adulthood. In childhood I loved Transformers, Gi Joe, MASK and the odd toy other toy line. My first transformer was Jetfire and my first Gi Joe was Gung Ho w/ the troop transport. My last Transformer was the Powermaster Getaway and my last Gi Joe was Slice (vr 1) I stopped 'playing' with toys around the age of 12 and started the whole girl thing....:p -end of Child hood era- In high school (1995) I started to collect the power of the force 2 figures. My first Adulthood figure was a Long Sabre Ben Kenobi and a Tie fighter that my brother got me for Christmas. Since then I have done a lot of collecting, but also have gotten married, went to university, had two kids and own a house. I have been a collector through all of these important times, so I would say it is a big part of my life. How long have you been collecting? Serious collecting for 12 yrs. What toy lines do you collect? As mentioned, I have done a lot of different lines through childhood and adulthood. This is a rundown of all the lines that I have bought during these times: -Transformers (some Gen 1, All current) - GI Joe (some old, All S6) - Star Wars (POTF and on until I could bring myself to buy any more luke’s!) - Gundam - Neon Gen - Final Fantasy - Many different MacFarlane figures (Spawn, Metal Gear, Monsters, Kiss) - Spiderman - Simpson’s - Big Blast What are your prized items? Gen1 Jetfire 20th Anniversary Optimus Will you continue collecting in the future? Yes! Where you from? Calgary, Alberta, Canada |

I sold my Joes in 1988, regerted it instantly, and started over then next day. I've collected Batman/DC, Spider-man/Marvel, Transformers, and GIJoe ever since. I've got 1409 TFs and a little over 1,000 3/34 Joes.

I have been collecting since 94 during Joes 30th. Thats when I realized toys were getting more valuable. Before the toys were just toys but I never quit buying toys
I've collected a little bit of everything. Transformers, my other true passion, Star Wars, my dirty shame, modern MOTU, Marvel since 1990, Spawn, Simpsons, Gargoyles, Batman TAS, Aliens vs Predator(Kenner), Terminator, LOTR, and oddball vdeo game characters. Plus many others but, like many of these, have been sold off so I dont recall them all. Before I was officially collecting it was SW, TFs, Joes, MOTU, MASK, Inhumanoids, Battle Beasts, MuscleMen, and TMNT. My most prized items would be my Brave Maximus, a decent substitute for the real thing, my MP collection, my Botcon figures, X-9, my ML chase figures, my con and mailaway MOTU figures, my recently aquired gold head Steel Brigade, my SW vehicles, and my BAT v1 army including a MIP one My future of collecting would be Joes, TFs, SW, and Marvel Legends. A recent Toyfare article has inspired me to check out COPS. My mom wouldn't buy them for me back in the day so Im gonna look into that |
