Holy crap, the Kindle version is only $2. Is that right???
I was just thinking to myself, "Self, don't splash soup on Irid's book. And don't crease the spine. I wonder if there's a non-Kindle version to buy? Since your Kindle is old and not hooked up to anything but your Calibre library." I still haven't got any Lipton's on it. |

Yeah... the preorder is two bucks. Not sure if that's all one pays on it though. Regardless, I fear most things digital and must retain a physical copy of things I own. I know that gets a little muddy in regards to CDs and other forms of physical media that use a digital format but stick with me on it. I don't do downloads.

There's not much of a choice with software, like apps and game add-ons. But otherwise I mostly agree. I'll buy MP3s from Amazon because there's no DRM they can use to yank it away if the label decides they like pink better than rabbits, and I can store it where I want and play it on anything. Not so keen on buying ephemeral replacements for physical content tied to a specific entity, like Apple or Amazon. Both make good devices, but I don't give two shits about their entertainment consumption ecosystems. If I decide I want to buy another brand of e-reader/tablet/whatever, the idea that the content disappears along with the old device is bullshit for the consumer. Or if my account gets compromised, bye bye stuff I paid for. Yeah, screw that.
But yeah, I'm definitely up for spending another few bucks for an ecosystem-agnostic digital version of Ordination. Not the least reason being that Irid wrote this thing with a thesaurus and/or much wider vocabulary than I possess, and being able to do a quick lookup right in an e-reader is handy. And more accurate than gleaning, "that's a type of horse... I think," from context. |

Yes, the Kindle and Nook editions are on sale for $1.99 all during May. That's the total price, you'll get it for $2 on June 1, not a "down payment" or anything like that. That's basically how ebook sales work...you just discount it and make it up in volume. Not sure how the digital sales are going yet. Print sales are good, though...first print run is basically almost all gone.
And if the words you weren't sure referred to a horse were "palfrey" or "destrier," then yes...those are horses! Context clues for the win. Also you can always just ask me.

Texts prior to 11 pm are probably fine. After midnight, you will get no answers.

Which is why I mentioned the lookup feature of my Kindle. Comes in handy when reading Lovecraft, Pratchett, and Ford.

the good news is that Irid has a smartphone that won't crash just because I tried to send a picture.

I'm not allowed to dislike something and if I do, I'm whining. Who knew?
