So, got a new car... Well, new to me. '97 Thunderbird, 4.6 V8, less than seventy thousand miles on it. Which is considerably less than the two hundred-fifty thousand my current 'Bird has on it. Teal green, Bob Taylor pinstriping, spotless interior... Very, very nice car.
And, I almost had two cats whose former owner was literally ax murdered. |

Boring, boring? Would it help to know the car's previous owner is also now dead? Nothing as flashy as murder, just old age, basically...
So, yeah, the cats. So the woman was apparently the very kind, generous soul type who would take in strays and other unwanted animals. Had horses, goats, cats, dogs, the whole farm yard variety. It would seem that this also included folks down on their luck. Unfortunately, as the story has been relayed to me, her last tenant had something of a mental issue that resulted in him snapping and killing her with an ax [or axe]. He was on the run last I heard with the KY State Police very eager to find him as the woman murdered was the daughter of a retired officer. So, anyway, the animals she had accrued suddenly needed new homes. They were looking for folks in the county to take them and since my mother works at one of the local vets office [where most of the animals were given exams], she was offered two of the cats to replace the one I recently had to put down due to the previous cat catching FIV, the virus that cause Kitty AIDS. A tragically cute sounding affliction if I've ever heard of one. However, because the cats [and other animals involved with the murder] suddenly became high profile and somewhat news worthy, a vet in another county demanded that all the animals be turned over to her care for inspection. Last I knew she had taken the whole lot and gained 15 minutes of [local] fame as a "Big Hearted Humanitarian." So no crime scene kitties for this guy. I just hope they get decent care with this other vet. All that aside, my mother was able to get another stray that found its way into the office. A real bad ass with a heart of gold according to the vet who examined him and named him Chuck after said cat clawed his way through two vet techs and ran around the office causing mayhem. After dropping off the cat and before she headed for home, mother's last words were, "Good luck with that..." Personally, I don't see the trouble making side of him. He came over to the farm, got out his cage, crawled up on my shoulders and fell asleep. But I hope its there as he's gonna be spending the bulk of his time out in the barn keeping the vermin under control. Last edited by Hicks_Royel; 01-23-2011 at 12:44 AM.. |

Update on that... seems that Chuck has escaped his stall in the barn. But I've seen paw prints too small for the dogs' in the snow so maybe he'll stick around after all. Reckon I'll know after the first week if I have new cat here or not.

I'm totally not sure if you actually have a barn or if you're playing to a Kentucky stereotype.
