In my opinion, I think you misread that. When he says new characters, he was answering the letter?s question about seeing older characters getting their chance to shine. So when he says new characters will be showing up, I think he means team members who have not had the time to shine or been apart of the action lately. Just my two cents.

I thought this issue was pretty lame, unfortunately. The plot is pure wheel-spinning. Mindbender's new outfit is incredibly cheesy, and would have looked ridiculous as hell even if it had debuted around 1996, which is about when it feels like it was originally designed. (I just love that he now has some weird robotic monocle, as if that somehow made more sense than Revanche simply giving him a new bionic eyeball that actually works while replacing every other body part.)
The art is also cluttered and messy. But perhaps the worst aspect of the issue is the way Hama continues to confuse military jargon for character dialogue. Not a single line of spoken dialogue in the issue feels even remotely like a natural conversation human beings would have with one another. That has always been a problem with Hama's writing, but some issues read better than others, and this was one of his worst in that regard. Perhaps more than any other issue since ARAH passed from IDW to Skybound, this issue feels totally phoned-in. I didn't like anything about it. |
