I had high hopes. I thought the Duke mini series was really good, and Cobra Commander was decent...but then Scarlett and Destro were big misfires for me.

Maybe it's the art? Just not very good.

Agreed. The art is so bad (IMO) that it makes it unreadable for me. I’m not sure how Skybound budgets for Joe projects, but it appears that the big money is spent on ARAH.

Thanks! I hope to do some more in the BAF era of comics. We also did a great interview with Editor Richard Starkings about the Marvel UK action Force weekly a while back.

I'm still digging this all around. I really like the art; the retro look reminds me of Jonny Quest and similar shows from that timeframe. Good stuff!

Agree with Destro and Scarlett series not being NEAR as good as Duke or CC's, but I'm still enjoying this series. It's a fun alternate universe, but I think it's hard for a lot of Joe fans to move outside ARAH because it's so ingrained in their minds that "this is GI Joe". Anything deviation feels wrong.

It's definitely both, but I'm going to give it another try starting with #7, when Andrea Milana takes over art duties. His work on Cobra Commander was the best of the Energon Joe stuff that I've seen. I still prefer more traditional artists, but it's worth a second look.
