I was bored during the pandemic and went through my Action Force Weekly files and only kept the pages with the text edits between the US vs AF reprints (not counting the replacing of Gi Joe with Action Force). I'd mainly want the AF weekly/monthly material and only the issue differences would be ideal for me.
Action Force Weekly #2 actually censored GI Joe #50's backup. Last edited by Predakwon; 03-07-2025 at 11:18 AM.. |

While it's not been made clear yet how exactly it will be presented, the newly announced Transformers Compendium says it's reprinting the US and UK comics, but also (and it makes it sound like it's an additional collection) the US and UK stories edited together in the way they were originally released in the UK.
I'd love to see something similar to that for the UK GI Joe/Action Force stories, one long collection of the UK stories plus the UK edits of the US stories in order the were released over here. For example, Storm Shadow was already introduced before #21 was re-printed, #21 also had a UK exclusive prologue and epilogue. The events leading to Gung Ho getting cut up by Storm Shadow were totally different. Wild Weasel was sent to the swamps as a result of the events of Shakedown, which was reprinted before Zartan was introduced, and the text was often edited to reflect these kinds of changes. In between all these were stand alone UK stories too. The UK Transformer titles have always seemed difficult to source in the USA. Hachette did their Definitive G1 collection in the UK a decade ago, but that is long gone. I have a couple UK oversized paperback re-prints that I found at Half Price Books years ago, but that is it. Not sure if there were rights issues with Marvel UK and the way they offloaded a lot of stuff to Panini Comics back in the mid-90s. Just glad to see that something is being sorted to get UK material published again. |

If it's anything, I would guess it's not so much rights issues - Panini has the rights to reprint US material and (I think) some new Marvel superhero stuff - but most likely due to original art and so on getting destroyed when Marvel UK went bankrupt in the 90s. I'm in a Marvel UK fan group on Facebook and some of the pros that worked on the comics post in the group and when I said something about a trade of some of the 1990s comics I read parts of, or missed entirely, they said it was unlikely for those reasons, loads of stuff just got binned.
