Larry is a pacifist. Generally speaking, he doesn't want to see humans killed, so he kills off robots, mutants, zombies, and clones instead. Generally speaking, he uses swords, rockets, and chainsaws rather than guns to do that. This isn't new to comics. Nearly all of the superhero comics shy away from the same things and, generally speaking, ARAH is a superhero book disguised as a military book.
Larry writes comics the same way he did in the 80s--I like that about his style. It still feels like a bronze age comic book (my favorite era). It's not always going to be realistic. It's going to be fantastical. That's what ARAH has always been and always will be so long as Larry is still writing it. If you want a realistic military book month in and month out, you're going to have to look somewhere else.

One of my favorite things about GI Joe is that it is a microcosm of the US military. Each Joe has a specialty, and they use those mix of specialties to solve complex problems. GI Joe comics work best when a mission team is made up of the Joes needed to solve the problem.
One of my favorite comics as a kid was Special Missions #2. Hawk sends out 2 teams of Joes. The arctic team is led by Snow Job, with Alpine, Airtight, and Breaker. Every single Joe on that team had to use his specialty to deal with the ice, rappelling, toxic gas, and communications. The jungle team of Clutch, Roadblock, Recondo, and Dial-Tone also made sense. The personal issue for Clutch is especially meaningful in the story, and the ending of the story is pure classic Hama gold, no pun intended. I am hoping that #314 is a return to that type of story. And I hope that we see a lot more of those kinds of missions in the future. Last edited by Bryon; 02-06-2025 at 12:44 PM.. |

I hope we see Zarana do something other than fold her arms whenever she and Zandar are together, and no, I don't mean Zarana being indifferent or mean or hating him.
