I have heard this is the most grounded version of the Joes and stories and I am wondering what everyone thinks? I found it on amazon and the hardcover is 139 bucks. I am thinking of picking it up.

Has anyone read it? Was it really grounded? I heard it was pretty gritty. This sounds like it would be right up my alley and the tone I think the Joes should embrace....

I don't want to spend that kind of money if the story sucks.

It's an excellent series. That particular hardcover is very nice.

But, once you've read the story...you'll be out $139.

It's possible Skybound will reprint it, given it's reputation.

I’d say it’s one of the best Joe collected editions you can buy. I have all the issues, and pulled the trigger on this HC edition to have it all* in one place. I vaguely remember COBRA titles/chronology being a little confusing, so the big book is nice. You can also probably grab all four(?) trades for cheaper than that.

Caveat: I’ve heard some people say they don’t like GI Joe getting more grown-up/realistic. None of the violence is gratuitous but it’s not something I’d hand my 7yo nephew to read.

*if I recall, this HC has all the issues EXCEPT what’s in the October Guard tpb/arc.

I would actually prefer a more grown up take. I think that is missing. The kids don't care about Joes anymore and the real collectors are adults. I would imagine they would want something with a little gravitas than ninjas and corny nonsense at this point.

I will see if I can find the trades paperbacks. That HC price is rough....

Yeah, I would really love more of this from what I understand it to be. It seems like just more grounded with like a Mission Impossible vibe. I also think there is room for new Joes and Cobras. I also think Skybound should really employ a tech advisor and use characters for their intended roles. It would just offer a chance to use all the characters on the Joe roster instead of using BBQ as a pilot which is ridiculous...
