We all saw Nemesis Enforcer coming a mile away, but his "unveiling" in this issue fell limp for me.
I have about 5% interest in Cobra La. I didn't like it as a kid. I haven't ever warmed up to it. Nemesis Enforcer is the least interesting of that three-pack to me. I had it as a kid and never used any of them. I like the art on CC quite a bit. Where it has fallen flat for me is the writing. How did Zandar rescue CC from what looked like a quite deep lake? How did he capture him? That whole cliffhanger was just dropped. This title doesn't feel like it is about Cobra Commander. He's just kind of walking around in it making brief appearances. And we keep doing the "camera looks away - blood splashes" thing. I feel like there is one every issue. To me that isn't scary or "mature." I wish this was more of a psychological script. And the "interrogation" scene is hitting me poorly. He's covered in blood, they've been torching him and cutting him. Is he not human? I thought we established that he is human in this? The smiley helmet... well, that's clever. It makes me think of the Joker, but is CC like the Joker? Not to me. Is the smile more of a reflection of the Dreadnoks than Cobra Commander? The least likeable thing about this script to me was the subversive machinations of CC. I know manipulative subversive people, people who will tear your heart out and laugh about it. This wasn't that. It was very weak single lines which sent their recipients into a rage... it didn't at all feel authentic to me. It was trying to present CC as a psychological genius, as he should be, but came off as just confusing instead. It was just the idea that he was devious, it wasn't actually devious. "Trust me, he's devious." IDW's COBRA series was way more compelling. If you're going to write Sherlock Holmes then you need to be at least smarter than the average reader. The detective is only as smart as the writer. Cobra Commander isn't a detective, but the writer needs to be more devious I suppose.

Fair comments. One of the things I like about Larry's writing is that he's a walking encyclopedia and dictionary. He's wicked smart and his military background serves him well on ARAH. He arguably has other weaknesses, but being smarter than the average reader isn't one of them. Most of the other writers who have worked on Joe aren't nearly as smart or well read as Hama. Williamson is no exception.

Is he actually called Nemesis Enforcer in this series? Or Nemesis Immortal?

I imagine Skybound will call him Nemesis Enforcer though since they aren't bound to the toy trademark issues like Hasbro is and they seem to be sticking to Sunbow and 80s ARAH names and not new ones. Like Clutch isn't being called Double-Clutch. Hasbro had to change the name from Nemesis Enforcer to Nemesis Immortal so they could Trademark it because Enforcer was trademarked by another toy company at the time of the 25th figures release, Skybound won't have that issue. |

I just read #3. That serie is pretty much a horror comic. So bloody and violent. I like it. And DT is right, Zandar and Zarana have no affinity whatsoever in that serie. They didnt strike me as particulary close, almost like their in competition with each others in their dialogue. Also, can't wait to see The G.O.A.T Zartan making his grand entrance in that serie. Its as if they are building up his imminent arrival. Zarana talked about some kind of secret covered mission he's in. Interesting. If his dreadnoks and siblings are so violent and cruel killers, I can't wait to see how bad ass their leader is gonna be. Bring it!

I know it's gonna shock the hell out of everyone, but I liked the issue. I thought it was interesting to see how damn durable the Commander is. His mask, too.
While I hear the criticism, I actually liked that CC's manipulations worked the way they did. He's not dealing with a group of scholars, and it doesn't take much to stir up some conflict. The antagonistic relationship with NE is fun. The Movie definitely suggested that Pythona and the big guy were never big fans of ol' chrome dome, and I think this series has done a good job fleshing that out. I still can't believe that this series has taken my least favorite take on the character and, with a little tinkering, made it one of my favorites. I'm absolutely going to frame all five issues and put them on display in Cobra Corner.
