I'm glad they didn't try to push the issue of SE and Scarlett dying at all, but my heart sinks whenever I see Cobra Island. I'm really not a fan of Alpha-001, Serpentor-Khan, and the mutant zombies. Even though I don't want to see more of the mutant zombies, I'm getting a little impatient with that storyline too. I feel like they're trying to set them up as these great adversaries, but haven't seen much. They're drawn a little differently, we saw one eat another one (just to prove they would), but other than that they really don't seem that different than the un-zombified versions.
I am liking the Springfield plot though. I'm not normally a huge Dawn fan, but I enjoy her sneaking around. I guess I'd forgotten that her parents are still loyal to Cobra there, so I found myself wishing we'd spend more time on what that's like. I'm still grateful to have Hama and GI Joe back, but for the last two issues I've found myself wanting to read Cobra Commander before ARAH. |

I read last night CC1 was THE top selling comic of its week. It’s incredibly good.

I will always read ARAH first. Cobra Commander is probably the best non-Hamaverse Joe title I've ever read, but it will never be ARAH. |

For the next 2 months there will be a Energon Universe comic coming out every week. It was going to have to over lap at some point.

I wonder if the CC design in this comic is just the style of the authors or if it's an indication of what we could potentially see in a Classified figure? Perhaps b/c I just read this back to back with Duke #2 (where they painstakingly replicate the Classified look for another character that I won't spoil if you haven't read it yet), but I wonder if "Lucha Mask" CC will become a thing in the toyline?
Yeah, right there with you. Maybe it's because I'm basically jumping into the middle of a storyline rather than a fresh start like the Energon stuff, but Transformers and Duke feel like a head above the ARAH comic right now. CC seems better to me too, even if I'm not digging it as much (but I can admit that's mostly because they're focusing on Cobra-La and Dreadnoks, both things I find really dumb). Yeah, it's really tedious. I get excited when they focus on the Joes and Cobra, then we cut back to clone Serpentor and his zombie mutant cyborgs and my eyes glaze over. Hoping they and the whole Revanche subplot gets resolved quickly, it's really dragging the book down at this point.
It has only been four issues and fan morale is already sinking back to where it had been for the prior five years. The bloom is off the rose.

Do you really think that's the case or is that just the opinion of a handful of people on this board? I'm enjoying the heck out of it. *IMO* Cobra Commander is good, not great, and Duke is just OK. That said, both are better than anything non-ARAH that IDW ever produced.

End Revanche for good. If you want "other enemies" for GI Joe to fight, explore the toys for options.
Kwinn was a popular character, introduced when the number of Cobra baddies was 2: Cobra Commander and the Baroness. As more Cobra individuals were being introduced in the toy line, and Kwinn was less needed, Kwinn was killed off less than 1.5 years after being introduced in the comic. According to Ghost Bear's file card, he is Kwinn's son. He works for Cobra in the Mech division (ironic since Kwinn was put in a SNAKE armor/mech in the issue in which he was killed). But is he loyal to Cobra, or to his father, or only to himself? I'd love to see Larry develop that Ghost Bear story. A Crimson Guardsman thinks that Cobra Commander has drifted from his initial vision for Cobra. He sways others to his cause, calls himself "Overlord," and temporarily becomes the dictator of Cobra. I'd love to see Larry write about Overlord's Coup. The Stall family. Bombstrike's brothers (Barrel Roll and Blackout) are expert marksmen, but have as different views on life as brothers sometimes did during the American Civil War. A terrible question needs answering: how far should we go to save/stop a sibling who is destroying his soul and harming others? Can you save a person who doesn't think he needs to be saved? How far are you willing to go to stop a brother? How far will Low Light and Snow Job go to save a friend? The end of the "war on drugs" precipitated the early release of many convicted of drug crimes, including the Headman, who has reactivated the Headhunters in the swamps of the southeastern US, and outfitted the new Headhunter Stormtroopers with armor and weapons. He vows revenge on GI Joe and takes shots at Mutt & Junkyard and Law & Order, injuring Order pretty severely. While Order recuperates under the care of Dr. Link, Hawk calls Bullet-Proof in to reactivate DEF. Bullet Proof recruits Mace and Long-Arm to help fight the growing threat, along with the old crew plus Muskrat and a very angry Law. There are so many enemies for Larry to run with, using nothing but the toys alone. Please, Larry, end Revanche. Please look at the toys, read the file cards, and expand the Cobra/enemy side of the Joe-verse. |
