I'm re-reading all the Marvel TF and Joe books.
Finished TFs (US/UK/Regeneration One/'84). About to start GI Joe (US, Special Missions, Annuals, Action Force Weekly/Monthly) I've read all the Devil's Due stuff that's been in TPB by IDW till the end. I thought it was decent with introductions to Zartan's daughter and Kamakura. I never read Hama's IDW ARAH continuation. Any opinions on either or both after all this time? thx |

Everyone likes to bag on Hama's ARAH, but it is actually pretty impressive that the same guy has written 305+ issues of the same comic! It is fun overall. I even like the IDW 155-300 run. Some parts are inspired, many are fun if you love the property, some are phoned in, some are dreck. I really like Hama's work, even the new issues. Keep in mind, pretty much everything we love about ARAH came from his brain. I have the whole run of ARAH 1-300 in TPB or comic issues.

Hama's IDW stuff isn't nearly as good as his Marvel stuff, but it's a continuation of the story and it's better than the DDP and other IDW series, in my opinion.

Between the two, I'd go with Hama's ARAH. The highlight's are the Special Missions and Untold Tales arcs.

Overall I vastly prefer the DDP continuation to the IDW continuation. But I'm obviously not a hater, I've probably spent more time cheerleading the latter half of Hama's ARAH than anyone else.
I've read the new half three times. There are some storylines which really stand out, such as the Darklon story and many of the missions which had Long-Range involved (for whatever reason).
