Loved this issue. Some observations:
> Mooneyham has made Revenache look very cool > Several of the Joes weren't named. For example, nobody says Lady Laye's name out loud. > Larry continues to insert words I have to look up, in this case verisimilitude. > What is Dawn up to? Is it even Dawn? > Snake Eyes has a lot more to say than I thought he would. > I'm guessing SE and Scarlett faked their deaths so Serpentor doesn't see them coming > Serpentor is going after Joes and Cobra. Will they come together to defeat him? ARAH is SOOOO good right now. Keep it up!!! |

Probably because Lady Laye isn't her name?

Yeah, hard to interpret her tone when she says "I know." When I read it, it felt deceitful, like she was going to do something awful. But maybe she was just expressing guilt, like she felt bad for exploiting them.

I viewed it as a combination of guilt and skepticism: she probably does feel bad for manipulating her parents, but on the other hand they're also Cobra agents and she may not fully believe them when they say they won't report her presence.

I doubt it's anything more than just them faking their deaths, especially with all the rest going on with the 'visual only' and interference. That said, digging it |

Not seeing his face, just the muscular blonde guy who talks, is (weirdly) bedding Scarlett, and wielding a sword, Skybound Snake-Eyes seems like a mash-up of Snake-Eyes and Duke BUT I haven't yet received #302 so maybe I missed something.

I'm kind of the wet blanket on this one. I've loved having Hama's ARAH back, but many of the elements highlighted in this issue just push my suspension of disbelief too far. I like to think that Joe takes place in our world; sure, maybe there's some technology I don't know about (B.A.T.S, lasers, underground headquarters...), but every time I see Cobra Island I can't help but frown and say "there's an island full of flesh eating zombies...but nobody really cares? There's a clone of Ghengis Khan as Serpentor there too, really?" I'm also not a fan of the blue ninjas or revanche. It seems like a lot of telling us how awesome they are, with laser swords and kamikaze mode and all, but not really showing us.
I did like what we saw of the Joes here though. Spirit didn't have much dialogue, but his stoic attitude and proficiency made me feel like I really got to know him. I was also somehow surprised to hear Snake Eyes speak, although it made sense after a second, but that scene was just ninja enough for my tastes. I was also confused by Dawn's actions, but I think I was meant to be. Her reunion with her parents and that final panel of dialogue made me really curious to see what's going on. |
