With the more fantastical stuff happening in the Energon Universe, I'd like to see Larry tone down the cyborgs, clones, and zombies. But some of those elements go all the way back to the Marvel days though it always seemed that Larry tried to ground stuff in some sort of reality. He really started to amp up the cyborg stuff and now we have zombies. I'm still enjoying the book and I love Mooneyham's art! It drops him right into my Top 5 with Trimpe, Whigham, Wagner, and Vosburg.
The beauty of the original first year was that besides Cobra, the Joes dealt with Middle Eastern forces of Colonel Sharif, Russians (The October Guard), mercenaries (Kwinn), and crazy militias (Strike First). I'd like to see more military action rather than fighting just Cobra. Last edited by Shawn Kane; 01-21-2024 at 09:41 AM.. |

I don't think there's enough of an appetite for realistic military stories right now. I think that's why Hama created Revanche (and now zombies)—so fewer humans get killed. It?s easier to stomach. Also, ARAH featured a killer robot way back in issue 3, if memory serves, so none of what is happening now surprises or bothers me.

The Robot in issue 3 was fine. Hama was already using all of the Cobra toys released at that point Cobra Commander, Officer, Trooper. He also used all the Cobras from 1983. He used most of the Cobras from 1984, but didn't include Copperhead until decades later. He never used the 1985 Snow Serpents in the original run either. As the series progressed, more and more enemies got skipped (Gnawgahyde, Overlord, Overkill, etc.). If he were just told to pick a couple of them and write a story around them, he could do a good job with it. But instead we get MORE Revanche. I didn't mind Revanche for a few issues. But they've overstayed their welcome.

I dig Revanche. It's unique. And it's good to have another enemy in the playbook. That said, I would love to see storylines w/ some of the more well known villains (Dreadnoks, Destro, etc.) and give both Revanche and Cobra a break. With that in mind, I hope Serpentor sticks around for a long while and forms his own organization determined to rule the world...
