I know I'm late to the party here, but I loved Cobra Commander #1. Cobra-La was unexpected. However, I loved it. We're talking about a franchise with Battle Android Troopers, Brainwave Scanners, and Genetic Clones of History's Worst Dictators, not to mention that this is set in the same universe as Transformers and Void Rivals so Cobra-La is not a stretch. Also, the Megatron cameo is fresh off of Transformers #4 where Optimus takes Megatron's Fusion Canon Arm.

To an extent. Transformers Lost Light and Optimus Prime sold well. It was the GI Joe series and Scarlett's Strike Force that didn't do well. Screlett's Strike Force was cut due to poor sales. I enjoyed many of the comics that were published after the Hasbroverse was formally established such as Optimus Prime, Transformers Lost Light, Transformers Unicron, Rom, Revolution, Revolutionaries, and First Strike. However, I do acknowledge that IDW made a few glaring mistakes with the Hasbroverse. The big problem with IDW's Hasbroverse was that they had adjacent Transformers and GI Joe comics running from 2008 to 2015 without any indication they were part of the same universe. So it became jarring to establish those comics were part of the same universe after 8 years of them being effectively separate. The only thing I got was that IDW had been publishing Transformers comics 3 years before they started doing GI Joe. I understand this was because DDP had been publishing GI Joe during the first 3 years of IDW's Transformers tenure. Still according to the timeline established in Revolutionaries GI Joe was formed before the events of All Hail Megatron which just doesn't make sense. Mistakes like that plagued the Hasbroverse, yet no reference to them in All Hail Megatron or All Hail Megatron in the GI Joe comics. The real-world reason for that is because DDP was publishing GI Joe America's Elite World War III during Transformers All Hail Megatron. Image/Skybound has already learned from that mistake and established the shared universe from the outset. |

Agree with Scottys point 100%. IDW smashed together existing independent continuity and retconned that they were all part of the same universe. The lore and tone established over the previous years was pretty much abandoned.
Scarletts Strike force was cancelled before issue 1 was even out. It may have had poor sales but indications were it was due to online controversies with the writer vs vocal fan community but we don't have to open old wounds. It didn't help that sales were low compined with poor reception to the more fantastical less realistic take from that run. |
