It's also clear that he is a human in this continuity and not a Cobra La Snake person. Really like they are going with the gross disfigured face like Sunbow commander had from the cartoon, gross enough to make Destro almost throw up, without going with the horrible Movies multi eye version.

The ARAH comic is still continuing alongside this, so no. I actually picked up issue 301 thinking it was part of this new universe and was VERY confused at first, haha.
I was confused by this as well. It doesn't LOOK like Grunt, and I have no idea why they would have a classic Joe aiding CC, so I'm guessing he's just a generic soldier working for CC and that was just meant to be dismissive. I guess we'll see. |

To be fair, if he did not have the beard he could look like grunt, and they have also showed the baroness alongside duke, so anything is possible.

Every character that did the war cry in the issue died a horrible explosive death. I think that along with the Cobra-La scientist screaming retreat, that happened to look like the original Cobra Commander from the movie before the eye mutation, being shot in the head by the real Cobra Commander were meant as critiques on the movie.

So CC is just here a regular dude "sponsored" by Cobra La, an ancient snake people organization?

Cobra La is anti machine science and everything is bioengineered. Cobra-La has been secretive and away from the world for so long that they are running out of resources and energy and are on the verge of a Civil War. Cobra Commander is a human that was put on a science team consisting of Cobra La scientists and their purpose was to find a way to harvest the energon from a Cobra-La prisoner revealed to be Megatron to solve Cobra-La's energy crisis that is leading to a revolt. The Cobra-la citizens discover some Cobra-La scientists (and Cobra Commander working with them wearing the red visor 90s armor) are studying machine science (blasphemous technology) in secret and stage a riot on the lab. Cobra Commander kills a lot of them with a mechanical spore grenade only to be blown up himself by an incompetent scientist picking up a grenade to help but setting it off instead. Cobra Commander almost dies and his body is horribly disfigured from the explosion combined with the bio tech used to save him. After somewhat recovering the Commander is summoned by Golobulus and retrieved by Pythona. The commander is given his signature blue uniform and the silver mirrored blue helmet to "hide his shame" before Golobulus. Golobulus then gives the Commander a speech. Golobulus: I found you. Lost in the outside world. Aimless. Searching for Meaning. And brought you to Cobra La. Gave you purpose. And this is How you repay me? Our people worship only the organic. The gifts of the flesh and natural order of life. So basically Cobra Commander was doing the Bruce Wayne/Stephen Strange tour through the Himalayans in search of knowledge and a purpose in life (probably after a traumatic event) and snaked his way into Cobra La. Hes been living in Cobra La long enough that he now considers it his Home. Cobra Commander went behind Golobulus's back and interrogated Megatron for info and started making things with the "Blasphemous technology (advanced machinery Transformer tech), like the spore grenades. Golobulus reveals there has been too many leaks from the science compound, the Cobra-La citizens need someone to take the blame, and he also accuses CC of instigating the riots for his own ends. Golobulus reveals he only had him healed up so he could watch the Commander die with his own eyes. Golobulus then orders the Royal guard to kill Cobra Commander and Cobra Commander reveals his trump card. CC pulls out compact insecticon looking robots and uses them to kill the Royal Guard. Golobulus is impressed. Cobra Commander convinces Golobulus that this blasphemous technology can save Cobra La and asks to be given a title and rank and for Golobulus to let him go back into the outside world on a special mission to solve Cobra-La's problems and prove his loyalty to Cobra-la once and for all. Cobra Commander is then seen talking to an armless Megatron in captivity. CC reveals he is loyal to Cobra-La and Golobulus but did not reveal everything to Golobulus. CC says that Cobra-la scientists tried to get Megs to talk to learn his secrets and failed, whereas CC made a computer to directly interface with Megatrons brain and steal the secrets instead, a very painful process for Megs. It almost looks like it could be similar to the Brainwave Scanner or at least a very early prototype of one. CC's computer was able to detect other signatures around the world similar to Megatrons and after harvesting some Energon from Megs, Cobra Commander takes it in a container and leaves for the outside world. So Cobra Commander is being backed by Cobra-La and making his own organization in the outside world searching for tech, power, and resources. This one issue immediately solves the main complaint I've always had about the 80s movie by getting rid of the Cobra Commander is a reptile-man. The issue embraces the best parts of Cobra-La and tosses out the worst parts of the movie. Its like a more mature version of the Sunbow cartoon so far. Cobra Commander is a major threat similar to his Hama run counterpart and he has a high kill count in this one issue, he shoots a retreating cowardly scientist in the head to stop the retreat, he kills dozens of Cobra-La rioters with a grenade, 3 Royal Guards are killed by his insect robots, and he grusomly kills a guy to steal a tracked snow vehicle. Edit: It has not been revealed where Cobra La is located yet and it is probably not tied to the Himalaya's in this continuity, based on the fact CC was able to walk to a snow covered town and steal a vehicle it appears Cobra La is more likely somewhere in the North American Arctic under an ice sheet or glacier, way north Canada or Alaska based on everyone speaking English and there being a truck stop in the town with a road system. Which would also explain how a damaged Megatron ended up a Cobra La captive, basically Megs crashed somewhere along the Ark's flightpath to the Northwest United States and was recovered by Cobra-La. I really hope Zarana cares about Zandar too and not just Zartan... been waiting to see it for twenty years, indifferent creative team after indifferent creative team. I hope they don't kill him off as a pointless, disposable character, and choose to develop him instead.
