ETA: I should add that Gallant was very capable and I was never disappointed by his work--especially knowing that he was working quickly and for a low page rate. I would even get nervous whenever I saw a name that wasn't his in the solicitations because they were almost always weak by comparison. Last edited by stopdead; 11-27-2023 at 07:46 PM.. |

See, I have mixed feelings about Gallant. When I first saw it, I thought it looked pretty good. There is something about it though, something that tires me if I look at it a lot. It is very good from a technical standpoint, but his style grates on me after a while.

I appreciate all the hard-work the man put-in to keep the candle burning for ARAH, but his talents are better served on some other book. I wish him the best. |

On the topic of Gallant's art, it seemed under-finished or under-developed but IDW had some lousy artwork in the run that Gallant had no hand in. I was admiring some of Frank Springer's artwork tonight. Those were the days!

I think there would have been less criticism of Hama's IDW scripts had the art been better. Bad art can ruin a great story (and great art can cover up a bad one). And I think Hama, being an artist, is probably more likely to rise the occasion when he's working with a great artist. I think Hama had a lot of great stories during the IDW run that he wasn't given proper credit for in part because they were overshadowed by bad art.

I finally got my hands on physical copies of ARAH #1 and #301. The quality of both are perfect, particularly #301 which has to be the highest quality Joe comic I've ever seen. I own every issue of the Marvel run and only ever bought one issue of the IDW run (didn't like the quality so I only read it digitally) but Skybound has nailed it out of the park. I'm all in for the floppy as long as the quality remains this high.
