I'm not particularly excited for either. Hama is tapped-out. And I'm not interested in any Transformers and G.I. Joe crossovers.

Well I voted Hama because I'm barely interested in that mess. Zero interest in Energon. I think the idea of making a Cobra Commander comic is a terrible choice and Duke is too thin of a character to carry a story. Sounds like something I'll hear about years later after it's over and wonder at how many continuities we've had.

I picked the Energon Universe, mostly because it's just felt so refreshing to have people interested in Transformers and G.I. Joe comics again. Void Rivals was a big hit, and Transformers is shaping up to be a massive blockbuster, so if Skybound is able to transfer that success over to G.I. Joe, and keep consistently attracting name talent to work on the books, I think the Joe franchise is going to be in a much healthier place than it has been in a long time.

I didn't want to pollute the vote since I know nothing about the quality of the Energon Universe stories. I hope for a better Joe than we've seen for a long time, but they hire Hama. I also hope that all these new characters in the mix don't add even more Joe/Cobra characters to the MIA/KIA list, but that doesn't seem the case since they're carrying a body on the second cover.

I'm guessing it's Sean Collins honestly. You really think Hama will kill off one of the core characters in this day and age?

I voted for ARAH, but I’ll check out the Energon stuff too.
My money is on Collins as well. Now that Snake Eyes is back, Collins no longer serves that purpose. |

I'm going to be getting the Energon stuff minus Transformers issues that aren't crossovers. I learned from the IDW continuity that the only way to properly read it was to get the single issues. They started a collection program with the issues in reading order, but that never finished. I had to do a bind that collected everything up to Snake Eyes: Agent of Cobra.
I realize that they're sharing a universe, but I'm hoping that the interdependencies between G.I. Joe and Transformers aren't overemphasized. As I've said before, the crossover has been tried multiple times and it usually overstays its welcome past a miniseries or so. Here's the problem: the members of the Joe team are regular people with highly advanced skillsets and bleeding edge tech. If they live in a world with giant robots fighting each other regularly, that's all anyone will talk about. The threat posed by Cobra pales in comparison. In short, I don't want to be forced to read Transformers to get the whole story. |
