I totally agree. This comic has been awful for years. It's written for a 10 year old. It's boring, drawn out and with stories that go nowhere. And the new boring characters. The only recent idea I liked was how Dr. Venom was brought back.
Since Hama is continuing this crap-fest. Hopefully Skybound at least puts out a new version of Joe. The Chuck Dixon version was my favorite re-boot. I also enjoyed the Dixon run, combined with Costa?s Cobra book. It still bothers me that IDW destroyed those runs with the Hasbroverse crap. On a positive note we finally got to see Short Fuze again, even though he had to cut off a finger for that to happen. |

As far as the art goes, as has been said in this thread, inking goes a long way towards the final look. Maybe a different inker would have been a better choice. Also, don't forget, this book was running MONTHS late. Had that trend kept going we wouldn't have gotten to 300. Gallant upped his page production per day from one page to two pages to get the book back to a schedule that allowed IDW to finish at 300. Maybe in doing so, his art may have suffered some. I personally enjoy his work on the book including these last issues. Just my take on it. And i will say, i enjoyed the issue and i hope we get to know who the next publisher is and when we will get 301. I too hope there will be a "new take" on the series as well. Maybe in a graphic novel form that is a couple times a year that is a one and done story....all the stories fit together in that they don't contradict each other, but can be read in whatever order you choose and don't all need to be read to fully enjoy the book. |

So, my full take:
WTF. Seriously, the penultimate issue at IDW, the THREE HUNDREDTH ISSUE when most barely last a dozen anymore. The "big twist" was seen months ago...but the final reveal? A goddamned dumpster fire! This revival of Snake Eyes shits on the only meaningful arc this book has had since the 90s. Not only that, but the mere idea of an "evil controlled" Snake Eyes last a whopping TWO PANELS before back to status quo. Further rendering Dawn Moreno and Sean Collins pointless after having done NOTHING of note with either of them. And after those couple of pages, we're back to the meandering battle on Cobra Casino, with an obligatory (and still pointless) appearance by Revanche for which they are still piddling around in the background with no resolution or plan or anything in sight. And with the last issue at IDW, Hama wraps..er...scratch that. Nothing is resolved. The arc of the Cobra Casino carries on. For all the time he had to write this, he didn't even bother sending IDW off with class. For Fuck's sake, he even teased a "mutagenic zombie bomb"! AND HE DID NOTHING WITH IT. The restoration of the Snake Eyes status quo had zero weight. He neither ended this little arc to wrap the IDW run, nor did he have the balls to go forward with the zombie bomb and make a NEW status quo for the next publisher. It ran in place and THAT is what pisses me off so much. For all the problems the brand has had, the Hama comic WAS a little piece of consistency and was generally an entertaining little read. It had a legacy few others could claim. After nearly 12 years GI Joe goes out at IDW with little more than a fart in the wind. It felt like just another issue, to which he DARES to end with "To be Concluded?!" Oh fuck you, Hama. Fuck Hasbro for letting this garbage in the already meager anniversary year. And fuck whoever picks up the license and is probably going to continue this shit. If the powers that be and the DAMNED WRITER can't be bothered to give two fucks about this book...then why the fuck should I?! Regardless of what happens, I am NEVER going to purchase another GI Joe comic penned by Hama OR tied to his decade long slog of a continuity.

I thought for 6.99 I was getting a double size issue. To my surprise, I got a regular size issue followed by more of the same fan art that graced the cover. Instead of any kind of meaningful "ALL IN" conclusion, we got a public service announcement. I'm not surprised though, rushing over hyped events has always been the IDW way.
And the letters page...lol. Praising the editing and continuity? You couldn't even keep the continuity of Wade being on his way to deadville last issue. Thank god IDW lost the license. It may not get better, but it sure can't get much worse.

I wish I had the connections to give me a chance to write a 4-5 book story arc. I promise I wouldn't disappoint you guys.

I wish I had the connections so I could write the definitive Zarana & Zandar comic no professional seems interested in doing themselves.
