I picked-up all the individual issues for both Fury Max series'. So far I am enjoying the hell out them.
Imagine this same tone, but for a series about Joe Colton. |

I thought Nick Fury was Sgt Fury from the Howling Commandos? I guess not.
Hearts and Minds and GI Joe Origins covered a little bit of this |

That's the Marvel version of Nick Fury. The Max version is a bit different. That's the version "My War Gone By" is about. Tru those series touched on that a bit as did some issues of Marvel's ARAH like 152. I was just thinking of a book similar in nature to "My War Gone By."

The Peacemaker version is the same as the MAX one. The artist told me that the decision to brand it as Marvel Knights was Marvel's call. Ennis intended it to be the same guy, IIRC.

The Marvel Knights imprint is basically the happy medium between the standard Marvel imprint and the Max imprint. Most Marvel Knights comics were just set in the main Marvel Universe, I know this from reading Ennis' Punisher lines. The Max comics were set in their own Universe while the Marvel Knights ones were canon to the main Marvel universe. The Fury Max comics were set in the same universe as the Punisher Max comics, and apparently so were the Wolverine and Fantomex Max comics. Deadpool Max and US War Machine Max were their own things.
Stan Lee wasn't a fan of how violent Max Comics got, he didn't mind them getting explicit. I mean this guy did create Stripperella after all so him criticizing comics for being explicit would be hypocritical. |

No. It's the main Marvel version. Marvel Knights comics were typically set in the main Marvel continuity. Meanwhile, Max comics weren't.
