Wouldn't mind a kind of Metal Gear story type direction. Not super realistic but also not space aliens.
People love the OG first 70 or so issues but I think there is zero way any new readers today would care about that direction. A very heavy military style series just isn't going to bring in the readers. As much as I love the OG comics, the cartoon and toys were really what made Joe take off. Comics all around are doing bad anymore - even DC is constantly plagued by rumors of AT&T closing up the comics, and Marvel comics are basically one lame event retread after another or some truly silly shit like the new X-Men stuff. To be truly relevant again Joe is gonna need to not pull a Star Wars Sequels but also not keep relying on us original old heads. I dunno. I think a good AAA game and a good movie might help. Sadly, both of those things feel impossible given Joe's history of failed movies. |

We need to steer as far from hamaverse as humanly possible.
We got snake eyes thrown into a pit to die and dawn moron to take his place other than Scarlett. Let?s remember Hamas Legendary file cards and old writing . Time to go new. My vote is for Wedge/Bill. For reasons you will all soon find out.

Whichever direction the new publisher heads, I hope Zarana & Zandar are included together and substance is given to them other than "forget about him" or "sister of Zartan" or "twins portrayed as squabbling siblings if they even interact at all."

Cobra needs to be a competent enemy or else there's no need for the Joes, let alone "elite" soldiers and specialists.
And, I'd like to see some of the Sunbow originals brought into the mix. Maybe Quick Kick's girlfriend, Amber, can finally be a Joe or Mara could lead her own Eel team against Shipwreck. |

ARAH has basically one group of villains. Anyone else is a sometimes villain/sometimes ally, that is if they don't eventually become a full time good guy. And the main villain, Cobra Commander, is depicted as a buffoon. He's comic relief. It's awful. Cobra Commander should be as sick and twisted as Joker. The next publisher should not only make Cobra menacing and competent, they should have multiple villains that are also major threats. They don't even have to be new villains. *Completely* disaffiliate the likes of Zartan, Destro, Major Bludd, and Firefly from Cobra. Make them villains in their own right, independent of Cobra. |

Agreed. The lack of legitimate enemies is what has killed ARAH. The Joes are, for all intents and purposes, superheroes. Superhero comics always have a plethora of villains that the author can draw from. The best superhero comics have a small cast of good guys and a large cast of bad guys. ARAH is the opposite. Too many good guys and not enough bad guys.

That's where I think the Joes need to be broken into smaller teams/units and sent into specific parts of the world/terrains. Then, each Joe team could face a "better" Cobra cell comprised of equally fierce villains. Send Croc Master, Zartan, and the 'Noks back to the swamp but let Gung-Ho, Tunnel Rat, Wet-Suit, etc. deal only with them and let the bad guys win more often. Rotate characters every now and then, have team-ups, betrayals, whatever it takes to let those characters be at their best/worst. It wouldn't even have to be all that dark/gritty; no more than the Cobra Island debacle was in the Marvel run. There were a lot of interesting characters created. Lots to choose from and make use of without focusing on LH's favorites every issue. |

True. They could even be interwoven. Several Sunbow cartoons started that way, with a Cobra agent getting away with a crime that leads into the episode's actual story. No reason to think a character couldn't connect each setting. |
