Yes I spent a chunk of yesterday afternoon scanning my Order of Battle trade paperback, because it is sized 7"x10" (American comics are 6.625"x10.25"), so I have to scan it and resize the pages and increase the canvas (the white space; fortunately, the images are all on white paper so it doesn't mar the actual artwork).
I decided to minimize the amount of scanning I have to do, because I'd like to get this long box off of the floor of my office and to the binder sometime before I'm in a nursing home. The solution I came up with regarding the 25th Anniversary issues is part of that. While I'm musing, the reading order posted in the forum is different from the Complete Collection. Both are off in a couple of places, so I'm rereading it and making notes as I go. |

All right never mind. I think the order posted in the forum is correct. I just noticed that in the Complete Collection, Stalker is miraculously unwounded and in the Middle East on a covert mission with Leatherneck in SM 003. I am wrong.

i just sent mine off yesterday to Herring and Robinson to get bound. Followed the other post, but bumped a few special missions to either side of a few issues so as not to break up arcs(Like the Cobra Civil War in the 70s), put the order of battle at the end of the 1987 books, the yearbooks after whatever the last issue referenced in it is. I left the Declassified, the Storm Shadow, and the VS TF books out as i find their continuity to be ambiguous(sp?) to the Marvel run at best.

Hey can you post your order? I've been trying to figure the Special Mission order out in the same way that you've explained it--in story order, but not interrupting an arc. I'm going to go ahead and leave the 25A issues in (finally settled on this). Declassified gets its own volume. Storm Shadow, Frontline, Transformers, Order of Battle, and the unclear 25A issues go in a "Classified" volume.

i followed what has been posted here in the forums( https://www.hisstank.com/forum/idw-g...-spinoffs.html ). But i looked at where the Special Missions were placed in the order posted, checked the issues around it and just moved the SM books to either before or after the arc however i felt like(usually after). I sorted them into the order, adjusted the number of issues for what i could bind in a volume, then checked the story. Unfortunately I can't check which books I moved where as I already sent them off yesterday. Hopefully that helps you.

I understand the principle. I was hoping you had a TOC of sorts on hand but if not, it's cool. I'll figure it out and the world will be no worse or better for any minor differences. Thanks for getting back.

For what it's worth I just received a notification from DCBS that Complete Collection Volume 9 was officially canceled by IDW. Hold on to those trades.

To quote Rocky Horror: "The answer was there all the time, but it took a small accident to make it happen."
"Accident" would be a stretch, but simplest is usually best. I tried to place the Special Missions issues in the proper order when I realized a couple of things: 1. There are only three points where it crosses over with the main ARAH: issues #6, #16, and #26. 2. Trying to read the two series alternately just interrupts the flow of ARAH, which, as everyone knows, was often not cleanly broken into arcs like most modern comics. 3. The 25th Anniversary comics and the Yearbooks (except for issue #2) have the same problem. The propulsive flow of Hama's narrative is suddenly stopped for a separate self-contained story before resuming. And the chronology of many SM issues is unclear. 4. Except for "Hot Potato," IDW has reprinted ARAH, SM, and YB issues in trade paperbacks 5. I'm going to drop "Hot Potato" in after issue 1, and fix a few oddities with cover pages and the like, but otherwise the books are going in the order they were printed as TPBs. There aren't enough crossovers to justify intermingling ARAH and SM. 6. The 25th Anniversary issues ("the revisionist claptrap," as someone called it here) are going in the miscellaneous volume at the end. 7. I'm using Houchen Bindery with a graphic cover derived from the first Complete Collection hardcover, with the volume number changed for each book. It's the military. Everything looks the same. |
