Digital are not counted in the sales numbers provided. We really don't have a tracking method for digital sales, similar to how we don't typically get actual sold data for digital video game sales either as the sales are direct. Physical books sales usually are gathered voluntary from multiple sources plus distribution channels, digital kind removes the the middle man for these things and there is no actual inventor to track when it comes to digital as its sold on demand electronically.
Digital hasn't grown as fast as some predicted as physical was going down and digital kept increasing in numbers but then it slowed dramatically, with physical seeing a rebound in the past 2 years. But supposedly digital sales have also been increasing as well slowly. For the industry the number is around 10% of the total sales, it's not per book so you can't really just take a number of a book sales and add 10-15% more for digital numbers as supposedly the figures vary greatly per book. One trend that's been noted is that some series sell better in digital especially those with more younger fan bases who are more tech savy and have been growing up with digital books and media more. Stuff like Squirrel Girl and such that have big female and younger fanbase supposedly sell big numbers in digital while some of the older titles with more adult audiences don't sell as well on digital. Digital also offers publishers extra revenue stream thanks to not having to deal with print runs and inventory, the content will always be available and for sale, so books can sell for years without having to worry about printing new books or investing more. Old comic sales typically was just whatever was printed and shipped to stores, and that was end of story unless a book was in heavy demand to warrant another printing. With digital these books can slowly keep selling technically forever. Why you get lot of previews and ads for the old IDW Joe books even in the new releases, cause they are promoting the digital sales. Last edited by PanzerKrake; 02-12-2020 at 02:37 PM.. |

Is there a way to get a single-title mail subscription from anybody? I've tried Midtown Comics (who handles Marvel's subscriptions) and they do not offer "GI Joe: ARAH" as a subscription. I've looked around at other online retailers, but they ask that you subscribe to (roughly) 10 or more titles. IDW does not do traditional through-the-mail subscriptions, directly.
My "Local Comic Shops" (Nerd Ghettos) don't do hold slots for ONE title. I get ONE book a month and it's hard to find a solution. At this point, I absolutely hate going into a Comic Shop and would like it mailed to me. I went into a shop, yesterday, to get issue 270...and two upstanding gentleman were debating, loudly, about the categories and availability of porn as opposed to "cheesy porn, dude". I'm open to suggestions and recommendations.

Also if you really want to support the books at your local shop, the best way to do it is to subscribe at your local shop if you can. Preorders of books pushes stores to order extra copies, they buy enough to supply their subscribers and then will buy extra for their shelves. Why everyone pushes preorders for games and books, it helps increase retail orders.

I've actually been buying two issues of ARAH lately - the regular covers and the variants.

Comixology should have some kind of upgrade option that includes incentive covers...

Yeah DCB is great if you're buying a lot of issues per month. I can't think of anywhere to get just one comic. The shipping costs are always insane.

You can't really subscribe to one comic anywhere, image for a while offered it direct through them but they closed down the service. It's just not affordable to ship one comic book a month for any decent price, you have to subscribe to multiple books for it to be worth it from any of the stores that do subscriptions, and most that do offer subs require you to order a minimum amount of books a month.
If you just want to buy one or two books a month for comics, really best route is to just go digital. |
