Where in the interview does he hint at that? I must be missing it. The comic is progressive but I don’t think that equals pushing anything.

I don't mind. You may need to consider some citations though. Enclosed is an analysis on SJW tropes.
https://mattwilson32.wordpress.com/2...1/#comment-786 Frankly, there are some things I liked about the issue, but overall it seems like Mr. Allor is just checking off a list of requirements: 1. Kill off the alpha white guy. Check 2. Put an underprivileged hero replacement, Tiger. Check 3. Make the new lead gay, check It's formulaic and a tad bit lazy and uncreative. In my opinion. What's worse is, he seems to know that he's pulling the gay card and hints about it at Yo, Joe! Paul Allor On His New Era of the Real American Heroes – Multiversity Comics At the end of the day, it just doesn't have the integrity that I grew up with, starting in 1983 when I bought my first joe with grass mowing money. |

I actually find his explanation pretty touching. He put a queer character in because growing up there wasn’t one and he’s heard from people in the queer community that it means a lot to be represented, especially considering how diverse joe was from the beginning. That seems pretty logical and fair. He got hired to write the comic and so why shouldn’t he write what he knows?
In the past there weren’t gay characters in joe but it was a diverse group. This just continues that theme. As a member of the queer community I can say we didn’t just pop up overnight and decide to force our presence on society. Society has grown so that we are more aware of those around us. With that comes more representation. Think of it this way: the reason it seems out of place is because it was purposely not included before. That issue *only* exists because of the problem of people being excluded. The best and only way to change this is to reverse that. And honestly, it really sucked growing up and not seeing myself in my heroes. We all deserve that joy — and it is right in line with the core of what makes joe so great. So, they killed off Duke? Not cool... oh wait, they will mention that he is in a coma at the end and it will all be fine.

Well Darn. I always have high hopes. Didn't feel a bit like anything GI Joe that I ever knew. Maybe it is one for the next generation. Wish them the best, but I doubt I'll be one board. (New characters are always welcome....but not right off the bat. In my opinion, stick with the established ones, and slowly introduce new ones.) I don't see anything in this book that really leaves you wanting more...
But, I appreciate IDW for trying. Maybe it will last longer than the last several series....at least 10 issues? Last edited by Bub; 09-18-2019 at 06:00 PM.. |

Yes I'm mad they killed Duke but it is also a joke as he "died" int the 80's movie only to be mentioned that he was in a coma later
