Thought experiment:
1. IDW has decades of low royalty Joe comics on file. 2. Many of these stories are somewhat self contained in a single issue. 3. Some of these self contained stories are quite good. 4. It is very cheap to print newsprint comics (look at Alterna Comics). 5. Dollar Stores offer true national distribution at a known rate with a known return policy. Their customers are price conscious and are repeat customers. 6. Comic shops are closing at an alarming rate. 7. Dollar Stores sell coloring books and the like in multi-book assortments in cardboard cartons. A few of each book in each carton. 8. Comics could easily be sold in this same manner. With self contained stories, there is no need for serialized distribution. The Joe (or Spider-man, Avengers, Star Wars) books can remain evergreen with quarterly or semi-annual refreshes. 9. Ads can be included (more revenue) or not (lower page count, lower cost). 10. The books can drive traffic to IDW.com or other digital Joe promotion. Digital sales or Tubi.com for cartoons, etc. 11. There are more than 26,000 Dollar Tree and Dollar General Stores plus several other chains in North America. If one carton had 8 books and each book sold for $1 at 70% discount rate (a guess), and each store was supplied just one carton, then the gross is quite high, much higher than most of IDWs catalog. If there were reorders, then the gross becomes gross. 12. If you look at the voting map from the 2016 election, the mass of the USA is red, these are the same areas served by the dollar stores. Red areas tend to be more, how do I say this, American flag waving Yo Joe, than the urban blue areas. Sell to your market, make money. Business 101. So back on point, which self contained Joe issues should IDW reprint? Last edited by Adventure Fun; 07-24-2019 at 03:34 AM.. |

great idea!
Many of the early ARAH comics were self-contained (#1, #2, etc.). You include the early comics featuring Joe Colton (86, 127). Most Special Missions are great. |
