I read this issue on the fly this morning and hope to re-read it again tonight. Loved it. Great conclusion to the story and more amazing art from Netho Diaz (cool seeing the artist starting this thread!). Diaz will go down and one of the best ARAH artists of all time. Also, I think I said it before, but the colors really stand out to me in this series.
Cool seeing the action take place in a residential home. Aside from maybe a home in Springfield I'm not sure when we last saw that. I wonder what will happen to Firefly? Military hospital? Federal prison? Will he break out? Will he be broken out? It could be an interesting story to follow through. I'm still not sure why Silent Option was separated from the main series, especially since they alternated months. I would love to see ARAH go twice a month--its the only series I read with any regularity anymore so I'm happy to double up provided the quality remains. Hama, Diaz, and Waltz are on a roll right now. Don't stop! |

Thanks! I think people feel intimidated by a post from the artist. Don’t be afraid to be honest. Cronstrutive critics are always welcome.

I really liked this series. The art and story were excellent. GI Joe really needs an artist that draws detailed weapons and tech like Diaz. The series had a more serious tone than RAH has sometimes. I like the characters used except for Bomb Strike. Cover Girl and Lady Jaye don't get a ton of use. Bomb Strike reminds me of if Scarlett got a new uniform. I'd agree this could of just been 4 issues in RAH. It would of been a solid run. I can't really gauge how popular RAH is as it isn't a mainstream bestseller but if they IDW can make minis it must be doing okay.

I like the artwork all the way through the series. But the ending reminded me of a big budget movie that suddenly runs out of money and they just throw an ending together. The Banter between villains and heroes was really Captain Marvel( the movie )cheesy. No bullets through walls..no taking cover..the point of red ninjas is what again..god they suck. I get tired of the red ninjas/ arishakage in EVERYTHING..when they aren't formidable. they make stormtroopers look like seal team 6.maybe not use them or the blue ninjas etc..for a looooooong while. maybe id like them more. I enjoy female characters, but the girl power stuff just feels forced. did they take cover once? like really come'on. I think the dialogue just really bothered me.Im sorry the series had such a ehhhhh ending

I have enjoyed this series, but certain things about this issue bothered me:
1. Where was Torpedo? He is the most experienced and highest ranking of the Joes in this series yet Bombstrike gets to call the shots. 2. As mentioned above, the Red Ninjas, who are supposed to be formidable, have become cannon fodder. 3. Firefly. He is supposed to be an explosives expert yet the explosive breaching duties are given to some one else. He is supposed to be a solid fighter (is he still a ninja?) but he spent the issue running away. He is supposed to be able to surreptitiously sneak in and out of places but he was easily captured. Not a great outing for one of the better Cobra operatives. The back up story was actually more intriguing. I am interested in seeing where this goes. |

I’ll start by saying that I hated to see this mini series featured separate from the numbered ARAH run. I don’t get it.
Positives: 1. Fantastic art! Some of G. I. Joe’s best! Kudos to Mr. Diaz. 2. Storyline: chasing down Helix and the attack on her parents’ house were well done. 3. Mini story did a nice job of ending right where #1’s main story takes place. Negatives: 1. Too much emphasis on the women. No problem with that necessarily, but when they all become invincible and simultaneously drop Alpine and Torpedo? Don’t get it. 2. Dialogue was terrible in this issue, extremely cheesy. Helix and Dawn should have remained largely silent, with Bombstrike barking out the orders/etc. 3. Agree with cannon fodder red ninjas. I think at least three were taken out by Dawn and Helix (IN ONE STROKE OF A SWORD!) at different points. Also in agreement with how pathetic FF was.

Glad it wasn't just me on the dialogue.

Being a mini didn’t bother me at all. I like the fact that ARAH can support a quality spinoff, and at a guess I would say this is done in order to put out an “issue 1” to attract new readers to ARAH. The only thing lacking was maybe a solicit to do just that. “Follow the further adventures of Helix and crew in the pages of G.I.Joe ARAH”.
Agreed that the story started stronger in issue 1 then the ending, and the Art is superb in every panel. Funny J. James on the Firefly commentary. You may be right. Though for my money, I saw FF in this issue as a “I’m not risking my life for this.” He is, after all, about himself and only himself. |
