I preach this all the time in my line of work. Complaining doesn't do anyone any good. Constructive criticism with suggestions for improvement can and should be welcome. Refreshing!

Being a mini didn’t bother me at all. I like the fact that ARAH can support a quality spinoff, and at a guess I would say this is done in order to put out an “issue 1” to attract new readers to ARAH. The only thing lacking was maybe a solicit to do just that. “Follow the further adventures of Helix and crew in the pages of G.I.Joe ARAH”.
Agreed that the story started stronger in issue 1 then the ending, and the Art is superb in every panel. Funny J. James on the Firefly commentary. You may be right. Though for my money, I saw FF in this issue as a “I’m not risking my life for this.” He is, after all, about himself and only himself. As for Firefly, I liked him in the original run and loved the ninja reveal in #126. But since then he's not seemed like much of a threat. I'd still like to see more of him, though. I read on Twitter today that Atkins may be on board for a new arc starting with #266--his cover was revealed by Waltz. I've never been a fan of his work as it feels stiff to me (and super bummed to lose Diaz again) so I can't say I'm excited about the news but apparently there is other "big" news coming soon regarding ARAH so I'm certainly open to seeing where this goes... Still, based on comic continuity, he is indeed the Faceless Master—having infiltrated the Arashikage clan—as well as the Red Ninja leader, wherein we HAVE seen him fight against Storm Shadow/etc. As such, he should be a very formidable opponent, both in explosives and hand-to-hand combat.

I don’t know why but I did not realize these two were released in alternating months.

Yeah totally agree. The red ninjas suck. In the famous issue #21 Snake Eyes fights Storm Shadow and 3, yes 3 red ninjas. And not all at once. Now they just get mowed down. One negative I have about GI Joe in the last few years are that ninjas are overplayed and watered down. Please kill off the granny ninja.

I was a little let down that it was essentially a big shoot-out. The home seemed to become...larger...as the story went on.
I've mentioned this to the artist, before, but once again there seemed to be too much slash n' gash n' gore. Like an EC or zombie comic. I have no problems with violence and death in comics, but I get a little miffed when it's gratuitous and front and center in the comic's "camera". For example, the scene where we're shown Ilsa Bachmann's destroyed face could've been reduced. I'm of the Hitchcock belief that somebody is even scarier and shocking if you DON'T see it, clearly. Always felt that was why we never saw the original Snake-Eyes's face for so long. There was one inconsistency that someone might try to "No-Prize/NOH-Award". Early on, we see Firefly's face and he clearly has two separate eye holes in his mask. The bridge of his nose is covered. Later, we see Firefly's mask and he has the usual "ninja mask"-- one hole in the mask with both eyes AND the bridge of his nose exposed. Explanation for this is that in the first scene, you can see some stitching as the edge of each eye hole. Firefly could've realistically opened it up or ripped it (or maybe it was designed to open up?), as the fighting got more intense. While this story left me kinda' "meh", I do like the introduction of Helix and the potential she has, as a character. Usually we're just given a new (action figure) character and they're off and running (like Sightline, Bombstrike, or any of the new Joes in the Marvel series). I like that we were given an intro on Helix. I do wonder if it makes Dawn Moreno a little redundant, again. Helix could sort of be seen as a successor to Snake-Eyes--even though she's more of Hawk's project. The character has that same "bad-ass vibe" that the original Snake-Eyes did. I dunno', but if I'm picking my team for a story, I'd rather tab Helix than Dawn. Oh, also glad that the back-up story finally provided the names of "Helix's parents"-- Bob and Carla.

I really liked the art but the story faded to an unsatisfactory ending. Nethro Diaz needs to be on the main book.

Some explanations (not that i need to, but i want. )
All the violence are pretty clear on the script. Im trying to do not that violence now, even if script really ask for it. However, sometimes its important to the story. The ‘art mistakes’ was actually a misunderstanding from inker. I have never drawn 2 holes on FF mask, but the inker haven’t understand my rous on the panel and did 2. Since we actually wait more than 2 weeks to get the script for each book, we usually start the book already late. So we need to rush. Thanks to everyone who enjoyed the art. But m having a blast doing Gi Joe, and im glad to be back to the main book, even for a few issues. I hope you guys enjoy #261 when it comes out april 17th. Not much violence but a blown-mind ACTION !!! I think thats my best work so far |
