LOL, Hama toying with the fans and playing them into sending letters. Remember the last time we were promised a big story with the entire team and got 6+ issues of talking heads instead? That was my "there is no santa" moment.
Promising stuff going on in the desert. Will we actually see Heavy Duty or just talk about him? o_o

I enjoyed the issue. A good set up for #260. Good writing and art. Not sure what it had to do with "Cobra's Venom" however.
I don't mind the ninja/blue ninja stuff so long as Cobra plays a role in it. I'll happily write to POSTBOX: THE PIT but if IDW is simply looking for feedback they should consider monitoring this board and setting up a Twitter account for ARAH and/or Larry Hama. People these days want quick and easy access and email has become a bit of a drag. As for an arc featuring every single character, that would be quite the challenge! So long as it favored action over dialog *and* if all 12 issues were properly planned out in advance *and* it was drawn by Netho Diaz then it could be pretty awesome! |

Yeah...no connection to Cobra’s Venom, and that SS android seems to have just disappeared.
Odds are, a 12 arc series with all characters included would be mostly action, with many characters drawn en masse in the background, or in one really cool art splash page. Still...

I really enjoyed most of this issue. Having a bunch of classic characters running around and demonstrating their specialties was great. Having a Joe sustain a life altering injury also made the story more compelling. Meanwhile, Destro and Baroness continued their badass ways, while Cobra Commander was his usual unappreciative and unrepentant self. Dr. Mindbender's gratitude was unexpected but interesting. Only the queen blue ninja at the end gave me pause. Still, overall, a good read.

When I read Heavy Metal's name I thought back to when that SAW Viper took out a bunch of Joe's and further recalled it when I read Postbox from a reader regarding seeing more of Thunder who I also thought was KIA. Were these deaths addressed at some point that I am not recalling?

Which can make for interesting situations like with Sneak Peek. I have seen the OPs on Twitter about Thunder from, I assume, the number one Thunder fan before. I did not have the heart to tell them he was KIA. That would be kind of a crappy thing to do.

It's getting old to watch the Joe team written as incompetently as COBRA.
They've just battled against Venom (in Mindbender's body and then a robot). Everyone thinks he's out of Mindbenders head, but who truly knows? None of the Joes obviously know because they are not observing Mindbender, but regardless, Mindbender has ALWAYS been the enemy. Nothing in his history in the book shows he should be trusted in the slightest (other than convenience to the plot). So using logic and performing a simple risk assessment should tell Mainframe and the rest that although it might be convenient to slap a Venom / Mindbender designed leg on Sightline, it's not smart. It's the same "Let's just go with it" thought process by the Joe's that got Snake-Eyes killed. Last edited by todd_m6d; 02-11-2019 at 04:40 PM.. |

They mentioned "Heavy Duty", not "Heavy Metal". Heavy Metal (the Mauler driver) is still dead.
The "#1 Thunder fan" was funny. Sorry, your boy's been dead since 1991. Hama even cited the full list of dead people in the letter column a few months ago. I can't fault #1 Thunder fan's enthusiasm, though. Even all the way back to 1982, fans would write in wanting to see more of their favorite character. Usually, it was someone's favorite FIGURE...and not necessarily their favorite character. For examples, my favorite figures were probably Recondo, Alpine and Mutt. My favorite characters in the comics were probably Stalker, Clutch and Storm Shadow. There was a "Thunder" in the crowd at Snake-Eyes' funeral in issue 214. Creative fans surmised that this was, in fact, Thunderwing-- a replacement for Thunder who was used for the toy re-releases, circa 2003. Thunder's file name is "Matthew Breckinridge", Thunderwing's file name is "Spencer D. Crecelius". Also liked the inclusion of another named-but-not-seen Joe: "Caseload, the JAG specialist". I imagine his/her figure would've come with a removable attache' case and a pen. The mission to Shadizar reminds of recent rescue missions. Can't think of the exact issue numbers, but it was an embassy rescue mission with Airborne, about a year ago. Before that, there was the mission to Olliestan with Dr. Burkhardt, about 4 years ago. I don't think the Joes are so ignorant that they'll automatically slap Mindbender's robotic plans onto Sightline's leg, without question. I'd imagine they'd at least give it a thorough check before even trying to implement it. Unless I missed something, they didn't stick the leg on Sightline, this issue. Honestly, I could see something like: "Mainframe made some changes, but a good portion of Mindbender's schematics checked out". Then, a few years down the road, it turns out that Mindbender had an undetectable Trojan virus hidden in plain sight. Sightline then has a spy or a bomb in his leg.

All kidding aside, I enjoyed this issue quite a bit. It will be nice to see a bunch of new stories branch out of it.
