I wasn't expecting #258 today so it was a pleasant surprise to see it this morning. Great issue. I like that it picked up right where #257 left off. The Venom origin was cool and well done. I've enjoyed seeing Cobra Commander again--he wasn't a *total* wimp this time (I still want to see him kick a** again). Still loving Larry's writing and Ron Joseph's art! Points to James Brown for his colors depicting Venom's origin/demise--very cool.
On another note, if you don't follow Netho Diaz, Ron Joseph, and Tom Waltz on Twitter, you should as they all post some cool G.I. Joe content on a pretty regular basis. |

First reaction: Dang, this feels hefty. They must have upped the page count.
The Venom orgin was a welcome surprise. I hope CC learned his lesson and there are no more near invincible robots from here on out. Near invincible robots have run their course as far as I am concerned. Last reaction: Nope, just a bunch of adds tacked on the back.

Has Zarana made any appearances lately? I hope she's not off-panel following Zartan/trying to find him. I miss fierce and independent Zarana. And I miss reading about her and Zandar, my favorite twins in the mythos. C'mon Larry, I know you have it in you somewhere!

Haha, Wild Weasel is killed again.
In this issue, we find out Dr. Venom was born in Switzerland apparently in the 19th century. Also, Vinim isn't any more Swiss than Venom is. There are actually legit Venoms in the world: https://forebears.io/surnames/venom So do you think the doctor is hiding in Jordan or Kenya?

This issue fell flat for me in a way most issues don't. I'm also left remembering... didn't cyber-afterlife-Venom already fall into the vengeful hands of cyber-afterlife-Kwinn some time ago? This feels like a major retread.
Ultimately disappointed in the execution of bringing Venom back at all. The Venom/Mindbender setup had me really excited but as soon as he was put in the body of a robot I felt like I already knew how this would end, and it turns out I did. Where is the Storm Shadow android? Did he sneak off on his own?

Is he still under the boardwalk of Broca Beach though?

I enjoyed the origin of Dr Venom, but thought it was ironic that we only got an interesting backstory upon his demise.

If putting a copy of his mind into the robot expecting it to get destroyed immediately was a clever feint by Venom to fake his death so that he could continue on in the body of Mindbender without Cobra Commander knowing he is still alive is part of his plan, I would like that I guess. Putting his mind in a robot was dumb. I was just like "well, you'll be dead in a few issues" and he was. There's really nowhere to go from there.

Rhode Island Institute of Tech? lol.
Classic Hasbro reference. Bombstrike annoys me. Good to see the real Top in charge again. |
