So I'm still confused what's going on with cobra commander in the idw sitterson/first strike series. Krake is gone without any mention, apparently Tomax succeeded him with no explanation, and now baroness just decides she is the new commander without any fight from the rest of cobra? She's just like, "hey guys, haven't seen a commander in a while, I'm just gonna be that. Cool? Cool." When idw made such a big deal of how hard it is to become commander last time. I would have liked a new cobra commander to have some connection to the now expanded crossover universe (from cybertron or a dire wraith or something) if krake had to go, but it's a bit odd to go this route. If baroness is going to be commander (and she does deserve the title) then having her take the title this way is anticlimactic. I know there are a lot of complaints about the current series but putting all that aside, I'm still confused....

I'm ok with the title being handed down in this idw continuity. The cobra series was great and I thought the death handled terrifically at the time. Its a different interpretation of the characters and I enjoy seeing how characters are reinvented, while Hama keeps the original story going in his continuity.
That said, I would prefer snake eyes return via the brain wave scanner in a body entirely his own and it shared with a new character. |

Soooo, Scarlett takes over the Joe team and now the Baroness takes over Cobra? Is it paranoid to think this is some kind of agenda? I'm not saying women can't or shouldn't lead but since Sitterson took over now both teams are run by women, it just seems forced.

I don't think it is random but also not all sitterson - and not a bad thing. I vastly prefer scarlett to duke as head of the joe team. She was a badass in Gi joe renegades and they finally gave her a good story. Scarlett has been in charge many times (the Karen Traviss run for example) and her plots are often quite good. It allows duke to get other character arcs.

I'd say scarlett as leader in first strike has been awesome

I guess it's because other than Renegades I've never read a story that I enjoyed her being in charge. I hate Sitterson's run and I couldn't finish Traviss's run. I've just always seen her as maybe a second in command but never the actual leader.

I think the Baroness has reformed Cobra. She killed the entire Council. Tomax has been captured and Crystal Ball (who is scary as all-get-out) supports her.
That being said, it sure is noticeable that Snake Eyes and Helix are missing from all current stories after Quick Kick cleaned his clock. |

When did she kill the council? Did I miss that? What about krake?
